Ridgewood NJ, a utility pole located in the 300 block of East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood that supported three (3) electric distribution transformers was snapped in half when a contractor’s medium sized roll-off truck crashed into it on Monday morning, 07/24. One (1) of the transformers leaked a significant amount of fluid onto the roadway during the incident. The truck’s driver was shaken up, but refused ambulance transportation to a local hospital. Damage to the truck was minimal; it may have been driven from the scene. Ridgewood Fire Department firefighters mitigated the fluid spill and cordoned off the affected area. Power outages were reported by residents and business in the immediate area. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Emergency Services provided traffic and pedestrian control. A portion of East Ridgewood Avenue was closed for an extended period while PSE&G Electric Division crews worked.
Ridgewood Police Department Comments in the afternoon : East Ridgewood Ave is closed between Hope Street and North Maple ave as the result of a motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole. Power has been restored to the area however the road will remain closed through this evening while PSE&G crews work to replace the pole. Detours are in place
