Oakland NJ , the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional School District school board has scheduled a special meeting for Wednesday to introduce its third candidate for superintendent — Shauna DeMarco.

At the July 22 meeting, board President Kim Ansh explained that the proposed employment contract must first be approved by the board and then submitted to the county superintendent for approval before the candidate can be officially approved.

In shades of Ridgewood’s  ,“Marty Brooks Fiasco “, four trustees declared the unnamed third candidate “unqualified” at the July 22 meeting and refused to approve the contract submission. They called for the hiring of a new interim superintendent and the commencement of a new search, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Previous Candidates

The school board had initially voted unanimously on May 29 to hire Ronnie Tarchichi, the superintendent of the Pennsauken School District in Camden County. However, on June 28, just four days before Tarchichi was scheduled to start, the board members rescinded the $1.9 million five-year contract without explanation.

A second candidate was discussed in a closed meeting but was never named or hired.

Introducing Shauna DeMarco

The agenda for the special meeting on Wednesday names Shauna DeMarco as the third candidate, proposing her to start on August 14 with a four-year contract ending June 30, 2028. Acting Superintendent Melissa Quackenbush will continue in her role until DeMarco assumes office. No salary details have been posted on the agenda.

DeMarco’s LinkedIn profile previously listed her as a teacher with the Christian daycare and preschool Vineyard Schools in Paramus, but that listing has since been removed. She now identifies herself as a self-employed consultant since April 2023 and a business manager, trainer, and advisor with Icebox Cryotherapy since December 2022.

Before her current roles, DeMarco served as the superintendent of the Tenafly School District from July 2018 to December 2022. She resigned from the district along with Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Evelyn Mammon just one week before the start of the 2022-23 school year to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
