How is it that Glen Rock has free on-street parking and free parking for 3 hours in the shoppers’ parking lot, while Ridgewood now wants to increase the price of parking yet again? Ridgewood charges for parking, and it has a bigger parking problem than does Glen Rock, even though construction has limited parking in their shoppers’ lot.
Is the Village Ridgewood guilty of charging what they think the market will bear rather than what is reasonable and normal?
This long time Ridgewood resident now utilizes Ridgewood’s CBD less than ever before, and upcoming changes will only limit my use of the CBD even more.
Based on posts here and conversations with friends and neighbors, my family and I am not alone in this trend.

  1. I think simple economics — supply and demand

  2. Because they want to justify the garage. Garage should provide better rates and so it becomes more desirable.

  3. I changed to a hair salon in Glen Rock years ago mostly to escape the parking stress and worrying about the meter if I weren’t done yet. (It worked.) I don’t even use the Ridgewood post office unless I have to. If I can get something elsewhere, I do–and not on the highway, but in small stores in other towns, partly because I would prefer not to be run over. Memo to those considering doing this for the sake of a garage nobody wants except a few, pushing hard: exorbitant parking and ticket fees do not boost the use of our shops.

    .
Because Glen Rock is a great town.

  5. And so is Midland Park and Wyckoff and Ho Ho Kus. I go to all 4 towns and patronize the local merchants. Ridgewood? Why? It’s evident that they don’t want my $ other than getting it through parking meters and summons. No thanks. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

  6. As a resident since 1969 I always said the meters were a foolish proposition. I’d be interested in th actual numbers of revenue , minus costs of meters , salaries of meters workers etc (less coin boy theft ). Simple solution …eliminate meters. Double th overtime parking fines. Meter maids can chalk the tires to enforce the overtime, or more likely today there is a video cam app for them to use. Make it a triple fine when a store employee gets caught wiping the chalk off their tires. I refuse to pay a meter to use th post office as the above poster stated

  7. Employees are the problem
