If the the ultimate goal of those looking to build the garage is to revitalize the CBD..how does one not first realize that you need the stores/products that will actually draw customers to come shopping in this town. I don’t know about what everyone else thinks but Mango Jam and others aren’t really a big draw in the retail world. If we’re looking towards the future, larger brands with name recognition (similar to Tices Corner) is what will draw shoppers to the CBD. Building a garage in the hopes that it will miraculously cure the shopping malaise that retailers in town seem to be going through and somehow make the trinket shops in town the next new thing is a total pipe dream. Building this garage is similar to pushing for an increase in public pay phones in the early 1990s when cell phones were just picking up. If the council wants to revitalize this village, we don’t need to build this garage, simply change the retail landscape that suits 2018 not 1980, a parking garage will go empty if we continue to rely on mom and pop stores to draw shoppers in. Oh, and if anyone on the council is reading this, YOU DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO SPEND ON THIS HORRENDOUS IDEA.
The voice of reason and common sense!
Well once the state allows us to purchase marijuana then you will need a parking garage. Can you imagine how much money this town would make at that garage.
What you say has to do with looking towards the future. Our local and small politicians are not interested in that and they prefer to be shortsighted in the name of their own interests. I pity this council. They look so small and miserable with their personal agendas. I do not trust anyone going forward. People that try to get elected in this town are either full of themselves or just low energy and indifferent to the real issues. Both types are bad for Ridgewood.
Susan and Mike do you hear all these people? Nobody thinks this is the right project. Please tell us that common sense will win the day. Stop the insanity!
That’s right 505. Stop the insanity. Build the truncated garage. Well said!
About six years ago they had the opportunity for a builder to build a parking garage at a few stores and the village mayor and council voted against it because they wanted the revenue. But meanwhile you at the gym and 15 million and do the maintenance. When do you start making money 15 years later when I needs major repair. And let’s face it people the people that are in power right now mayor council upper management in five years they won’t be around
Or we could “just get it over with” and have the next several generations hate us.
Sadly, Mike Sedon might be the last selfless person on the VC. Can he step up and tell the others that they are in office because they promised responsible government after the 3 amigos debacle?
We negatively look backwards at the last councils decisions, we look at the current councils 2 years of making no changes and decisions – So what are the qualities we expect for the future council up for election in May. An elected official will never satisfy everyone, elected officials will always have a POV which doesn’t mean they are necessarily siding with anyone. Is the issue with the elected officials or the residents mob attack and intimation tactics. What resident would run? 25,000 residents – highly educated lawyers, doctors, wall street financiers – Yale, Harvard graduates and we have limited people running. Why is that do you think?
1030… what is the upside for a resident to run? Nothing. Add in the fact that many white collar professionals work crazy hours and your pool is limited. Also throw in tbe fact that you need very thick skin to deal with all of the character assassination that goes on in our quaint village and via the process of elimination we have a limited pool of people willing to take the plunge.
