10. Our Board of Education is bored of traditional education, so they leave it to the administrators to screw up.
9. The Village still has its reputation to live off.
8. With so many restaurants here, you’ll never go hungry for a nice meal–you can bank on that.
7. Our town swimming pool allows us to enjoy nature and, incidentally, nature’s droppings.
6. In the Village of Ridgewood, the Village Idiots get courtesy parking at Village Hall, courtesy of the Village Council.
5. Taxpayers have a luxury building in which to pay their taxes (but don’t enter if all you need is to use the bathroom).
4. The New York Times will still do stories on Ridgewood as a bell weather community even if people laugh AT us not WITH us.
3. We are working on making pay to play respectable again.
2. We think reform math is the next new great leap forward in education.
1. It’s a Village of large houses so your children will always have a quiet place to meet with their tutors.
>Awesomely funny list … in a sad sort of way.
>Residents with a dark sense of humor. I’d move here just for that.
>Unfortunately, it appears to be true.
>Tsk, tsk, tsk. Who’s telling all our dirty little secrets? PJ, your blog is subversive.
>I think it’s time for you to leave town – do you have anything nice to say ever? Or is this your thing – to sit back and criticize? Are you on any committees? Have you ever run for the board of ed or done anything to try to improve the quality of life here in Ridgewood?
>Are you on any committees? how bout you big boy oh and beside the a## kiss committe
>I think it’s time for you to leave town …i think a loyt of people are taking you advise and leaving …
>do you have anything nice to say ever? Or is this your thing – to sit back and criticize? …..
why yes the schools and the town used to be the best and I think we can get back there once again once we get people like you out of here
>You ARE the problem 12:31 PM!!! You have obviously served on committees and the boe … and these committees and boe are what’s screwing up our once fine school system. Also, where’s your sense of humor? For you to react in such a way surely reflects your guilty nature. Please call the realtor immediately.
>With respect to serving on committess, I offer my personal experiences in the Village.
1. The ones I am highly qualified for, I have volunteered for. Unfortuntately, all of the positions were taken by A#$ kissers and my extraordinary qualifications were summarily dismissed. “Thanks, but no thanks”.
2. The ones I am not qualified for (BOE – I have no financial experience whatsoever), I have stayed away from.
I do think Ridgewood can be a great Village once again. We need the right people in the right appointments or elected positions. We need to get rid of the dead Wood (pun intended!).
>This whole Ridgewood “it’s impolite to complain” thing is ridiculous.
Our BOE had no problem saying we have teens who drink and put laws in place to stop that. But parents can’t complain about the academics.
That’s because you can blame the parents for the drinking but the school administration has only themselves to blame for the academic decline.
>12:31 are you leaving town? there’s an idea for improvement.
>I dont like any of it one bit and i am not going anywhere .. these boe dopes have wrecked the schools and the village council needs to find new employment…it was OK to be an arragant arse when the town was a great place but now that its in such a shaby state your “you should move” attitude is lame …
>Okie dokie 12:31 PM (aka, Charlie Reilly) You must be pretty lonely over there on YOUR blog posting all by yourself. You’ve vented so now it’s time for you to go back to your lonely existence. Ta Ta
>Hi everyone – this is 12:31 writing back. Hate to disappoint you all but I’m not working for the town or board of ed – I’m just a mom with two kids in the high school who checks this blog from time to time. My kids have had a very positive experience at RHS, with the teachers and the principal, Jack Lorenz. No system is perfect – the school system certainly is not. But I find the comments and this posting to be mean spirited and not directed toward improving anything. It’s hard for me to get my head around all the anger expressed here.
>But I find the comments and this posting to be mean spirited and not directed toward improving anything. It’s hard for me to get my head around all the anger expressed here.
your lack on humor speaks volumes ,but lay off the kool aid
>But I find the comments and this posting to be mean spirited …struck another nerve PJ
>If Ridgewood such an awful town, I’m sure there are other communities that would make you happier
>3:07 grow some skin…jeez who made you into such a wuss. you’d last about 1 minute in a tough situation. hope your children don’t adopt your attitudes otherwise they will be toast in the real world. Ridgewood is just one, really, really tiny part of that world.
We’ve earned the right to complain and to be free from people like you who are slaves to any terrible government they inherit or VOTED FOR.
>3:20 WHO SAID RIDGEWOOD WAS AWFUL? IT’S ONLY ITS GOVERNMENT THAT IS AWFUL. I GUESS YOU THINK STINKY MATH AND OVERSPENDING ARE NOT AWFUL. BUT I DO. WE’RE ALL PAYING FOR THIS CRAPPY GOVERNMENT SO ANYTHING ALL OF US CAN DO TO GET RID OF IT IS WORTH DOING.
GUESS YOU WON’T HELP, WILL YOU?
>Your intolerance is showing 3:20.
>To the mommie with 2 kids at RHS: Too bad you didn’t put your name to your post because the HSA and BOE would for sure come courting you to join their eliteness. You would fit right in. God bless ya.
>The tone of this blog is definitely, even to the casual observer, overly negative.
this is just code for if you dont agree with me your negitve , I love when you piss them of PJ
>sorry folks…
but a 9.5 million dollar fiasco callled the village hall
the destruction of our once GREAT school system
not paying kids who umped for you
not giving a crap about kids unless you can make money off it
sorry there are a lot of negitives
but the worst of it is all the fools that make excuses for it …
>> GUESS YOU WON’T HELP, WILL YOU?
I’ll help you find the Caps Lock on your keyboard. It’s usually on the left hand side of the keyboard. You’ll want to turn Caps Lock “off” so that YOU DON’T SOUND LIKE YOU’RE SCREAMING AT PEOPLE.
You’re welcome.
>We like the restaurants and local businesses.
We like the parents who stand up to the BOE.
We like the old graydon dude and his band of local lady activists.
We like the Valley citizens who are looking out for us by fighting big corporate(not tax paying) development.
We like the kids…all the kids…even yours.
And PJ helps to find lost kittys…
There’s some postive feelings for you.
>The only way to right the wrongs here in Ridgewood is to bring those wrongs into the light of day. What better place than on PJ’s blog?
Our village and school officials now know that they are being watched closely. Perhaps that in itself will give them pause before they do something underhanded or stupid.
>4.04
I truly am ambivalent to this. I’m not, as you say, “pissed off”. Its just a clear observation about this site. Its clearly negative. There appears to be an agenda — yes, perhaps one that most of the anti RW government agree with….but an agenda none-the-less.
Over the past couple of months, the blog and a large chunk of its audience is clearly anti-TERC, anti-BOE, anti-HSA, anti-Valley, anti-zoning board, anti-Turf field.
I don’t even live in Ridgewood…but do enjoy reading this site — kind of like how you can’t turn away from a car wreck.
Carry on.
>all of the above= good reasons to VOTE. The voter turnout here is quite low. If you dont participate in the process by at least VOTING, then your complaints dont carry any weight. Perhaps some of those with ideas could run for office. what better place than here to ‘announce your candidacy’ for the position.you could be the first ‘blogger’ elected…
>PJ getting those kids paid for umpiring was very positive ,thanks
the kids deserve to be treated better
>Hey 4:58 p.m. …. Come live in Ridgewood to get the total experience. Of course, the next best thing is to read PJ’s blog. Welcome to our dysfunctional village!
>For all of you who want “positive” …. Ridgewood is positively screwed up and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
>I agree with 5:49 PM. I love living in a quirky town full of character —- or is that full of characters. For sure, life is never dull here in Rigidwood.
>it nice have a place where people have nerve to confront reality
>Over the past couple of months, the blog and a large chunk of its audience is clearly anti-TERC, anti-BOE, anti-HSA, anti-Valley, anti-zoning board, anti-Turf field.
we prefer to say the turf turds, the TERC jerks ,death valley, the not in my back yards, the math moms, the bloggers, the anti goverment grumblers, the just say no to everythings ,the drunks the geese peacers, the village workers …did I miss any ?
>If Ridgewood such an awful town, I’m sure there are other communities that would make you happier…
sorry Bud I was born here and I want you and your kind to leave …
>did I miss any ?
yes you forgot the let them (the kids) eat dirt and the do what I say not what I do crowd
>There is an agenda on this blog and it’s to remove the current administration.
The facts are that this blog is run and supported by mostly members of the local Republican party.
Well, God bless most of those Republicans because they are on the right side of every issue they grumble about.
If you don’t like this agenda, go to the Ridgewood Views. That blog is run by the current administration and supports them blindly.
Everyone knows who everyone is here, let’s not kid ourselves.
Every town needs consumer watchdogs to keep the administration honest…
We should be proud that Ridgewood is the town first to have a blogger and his merry men serve as town resident and parental advocate.
>It’s just a top ten list of humorous situations. they resonate because they’re so close to what’s true. that is why such passions to defend our poor, dysfunctional government are unleashed. if dysfunction was good we could keep it. but alas, it’s bad. oh where is dr. phil when you need him.
I mean, they really don’t want you to go pee in village hall. c’mon.
>Oh PJ, you’ve hit ANOTHER nerve. I LOVE this blog and welcome a forum where FINALLY people who do not always agree can air their comments/grievances and still be friends. I think anyone who has anything negative to say about this post has completely lost their sense of humor. If we can’t laugh about this stuff we’ll certainly cry!!!
>I think 1 is positive. 2 is positive, 3 can be interpreted as positive, 4 is very positive–hey we still matter, 5 has a positive bend to it, 6 may not be so positive, 7 is positive–who doesn’t love nature, 8 is positive–so many choices, 9 is very positive (we really need that), and 10 is just what it is.
There is a silver lining to every cloud. Cheer up. We’re blogging because there is hope for change and a return to Ridgewood’s roots of competent and eloquent government.
Now, that’s positive.
>6:48 – Have been drinking the Scott Garrett Kool Aid or something?
Republicans are on the right side of every issue??
“Ridgewood is the town first to have a blogger and his merry men serve as town resident and parental advocate” — THIS SENTENCE DOESN’T EVEN MAKE SENSE!
Dude, put your hands in the air, and step away from the keyboard…
>The Republican Party? LOL! Not so! What a silly characterization of a mixed group of people who care about improving our town. Yikes.
Here’s something I like about Ridgewood–the Youth Center, which is open on Friday and Saturday nights to middle and high schoolers to hang out, supervised.
Pool, ping pong, foosball, and a big screen tv. Sometimes when there’s pizza and a DJ, the cost is 5 bucks. The rest of the time it’s free. Nice, huh? I’m happy to pay my taxes to keep kids safe and give them the independence they crave.
>Added to the top ten list of reasons to live in Ridgewood should be #11. Members of our BOE and VOR unselfishly dedicate their lives to create the best village in the whole wide world.
>I have to disagree with 8, most of these restaurants have pretty bad food.
>Hey 7:11 You’d have to make your own list and would have to title it, “Top ten reasons to have lived in Ridgewood during a bygone era.”
>Don’t let the door hit you on the way out said…
“6:48 – Have been drinking the Scott Garrett Kool Aid or something?”
Ah, do I detect a partisan liberal Democrat amongst our mix. Granted this is a blog with a conservative bent. However, that only means people with common sense and values. Something that used to be shared by both political parties in our country. You remember the Democrats of which I speak, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Liberman.
Unfortunately, their party has been high-jacked by the radical left.
So it is with welcome arms that this blogs embraces those old time Democrats who understand that values and common sense are really not political but healthy for our community.
>The food at Joel’s Malibu Kitchen on Oak Street is always superb! Mmmmmm.
>I like many of the restaurants in town ,lots of different choices ,and differnt price points and types of food. The one exception is brooklyn pizza ,the food’s so so but they subject you to horrible music ,its just awfull and they wont turn it down when asked. They will say the manager likes it that way ….
>I agree PJ. We ate at Brooklyn Pizza once and once was enough. We didn’t think they were very friendly either.
