EVERY parking study done over the past 50+ years by objective professional consultants has indicated the need for a parking garage in Ridgewood. It appears the current Village Council is doing something to remedy the longstanding parking deficit. The garage will primarily serve commuters during the day and local businesses afterwards. It will be a boost to all of Ridgewood and despite the naysayers it will not destroy or diminish the character and desirability of the Village. Other higher end towns (particularly Summit and Princeton) have garages and residential property values in these towns have continued to rise. There is not one shred of evidence that the garage will negatively impact residential property values in Ridgewood. To the contrary, it will likely enhance values because prospective homeowners who commute to NY will benefit from the availability of convenient parking. This is a big benefit when you are rushing to catch your regular morning train to the city.

  1. Too expensive that’s why never built.

  2. Rip off VOR TRAIN Parking 750

Will be mirrored plus more to pay for this huge mistake

Ifs its all then lease the land let private company operate it and eat the huge losses

  3. It was never built because it should not be built. Every council that has considered it has ultimately dumped it.

  4. Let’s focus on the facts the village has paid tens of thousands of dollars to gather: do we have enough existing parking inventory to meet demand? The 2015 Walker “HUDSON STREET PARKING GARAGE PRELIMINARY FINANCIAL ANALYSIS” found here: https://mods.ridgewoodnj.net/pdf/manager/2015walkerFinal.pdf is an amazingly comprehensive study of existing village parking. The key findings, on the report pages 15, 16, 17, 19, and appendix page 4 clearly show we do not use the parking we have on weekdays and most importantly, on Saturday nights. On appendix page 4, the bottom table “EXISTING WEEKEND CONDITIONS – PUBLIC” shows 32%, or 194, of the public parking spaces, are available at 7pm.

  5. Every parking study has indicated a need for a parking garage? What you left out of your statement was why those studies were conducted in the first place. I would surely feel like a dumb dumb if I paid thousands of dollars for a parking consultant to tell me NOT to build something. It’s like asking the people who make ice cream what your optimal weight should be.

  6. Exactly. The thing about studies done by consultants is that they conclude what the client wants them to conclude.
