Reader says Great Job Plowing the Streets but somebody forgot the Ridgewood Park & Ride

First to say, it appears the plowers did a very good job on Wednesday. By the Travell School, they must have come by over two dozen times.

Of course, after cleaning up my sidewalk by mid afternoon, they were still out there pushing slush to the curb, and on to my sidewalk.

With all that, no one plowed the Ridgewood Park & Ride on 17. What a mess this morning.Somebody goofed.

  1. You should look at the upper part of the CBD. You have to park 3 ft of the curb. Can’t get to the meters so I hope no one gets a tickets. Don’t forget to pull in your mirrors or going to loose them. Ao much for helping the merchants.

  2. I wonder if there are any written procedures for those guys (and gals) who plow our streets. Seems like from what I observe, they do it very inefficiently. I would think you would first plow the center of the road them keep moving to the right until you go curb to curb. Looks like they make one lane in each direction and then keep doing that over and over. Finally after a few hours (after you’ve cleared your driveway) they try to get closer to the curbs. Not sure why…. Like anything else, there is a correct way to plow snow…

  3. Isn’t RW hiring outside contractors to do snow removal?

  4. Yea no kidding the worst plowing job I have ever seen.
CBD looks like a war zone!

  5. I’d like them to slow down so that the impossibly heavy snow from the streets doesn’t cover the sidewalks. I literally could not lift the snow that had been deposited on my sidewalk from the street yesterday. I hired two teenage boys to do it for me.

  6. North Walnut Street between East Ridgewood and Franklin Avenues looked like a war zone this morning. So did the area near Ridgewood Coffee and Cordially yours. I’ve never seen it this bad. Zero percent tax increase does have its downsides.

  7. 1/2 of the town is being plowed by town workers and also noticed a few trucks w/ Ridgewood Dept. of Education.
I believe west side is contractors.
Same situation w/ the leaf removal.

  8. There are apparently a lot of people in Ridgewood who have never been to an actual war zone. Lets throttle the hyperbole, shall we? It makes you look like stereotypical rich buffoons.

  9. Those giant mounds of snow will eventually be removed by the town guys. They only have 2 guys licensed to drive front loaders. Everyone else retired the past few years.
Some of those retirees are making tons of money during these snowstorms working with independent contractors in other towns. They know what they’re doing during these storms.

  10. the contractor on the west side did a great job.. as usual. The do it very efficiently with pickup trucks and suvs. They don’t need monster size dumptrucks.
Maybe this outfit can be contracted to pick up the leaves since they do a great job with the snow.

  11. hey they only have 7 guy’s left in the d p w. the contractor has 16 workers. and yes the contractor better do a good job they make big money. they make a $150 hr per truck.that’s the charge rate on a small truck. if we got hit with a big bad ass storm and you need biger trucks then you pay 185 to 200 per truck.

  12. it will all melt, learn to drive.

  13. The trucks did drive fast. They created a wave of snow and slush. They could have slowed down, done a careful job, no snow on the shoveled sidewalk and improved the safety for those of us outside cleanung up. A village truck driving fast down a snow covered road is an accident waiting to happen.

  14. yes every one need’s to slow down a bit.

  15. who need’s to slow down is the njt buss line, they fly in and out of this town.my god what is up with them. are they on a time line.

  16. I’d like to see the plows actually come close to the curb. To get my car out, I had to shovel an extra 10-12 feet of street that the plows didn’t clear.

  17. At least my Christmas tree finally got moved away from the front of my house!!

  18. # 10. So glad the west side was taken care of. Over here on the po side of town we have a mess on many streets.

  19. #2 hit the nail on the head. They keep plowing the center until the end of the storm, then they work on the sides – but barely.
#9 – you don’t need a special license to operate a front end loader.
