Hire “specials” who can patrol the schools in the morning and protect us from the evil Verizon, PSE&G and NJ Transit workers during the day. Will help to reduce the obscene amount of OT the police department charges the Village as well by avoiding unecessary scheduling conflicts for extra duty work. We probably only need 25-30 full time cops if we hired specials. It would be a material cost savings for Village taxpayers, and we’d be just as safe. The police union won’t tell you this of course
I can tell you’re a Brit from the term “Specials”. They are called Auxiliary Police on this side of the pond.
Yes, you’re right about the union. They have a powerful vested interest in blocking such a move.
The specials can also help fight fires and write summons for the upcoming water restrictions.
Unions don’t allow it because it’s good for taxpayers. The Mayor won’t propose it because she just inducted her sons into the Ridgewood Police Dept and she won’t favor taxpayers over the police. And the union lackeys will talk till they’re blue in the face about why is will jeopardize our safety. How well turn in to Paterson. It’s a total scam against taxpayers to rip us off through excessive OT and too many full time cops on the force with all of their extra benefits that follow.
I believe PSEG pays cop OT so it is not a Village budget issue.
Time to take action people …,rise up. Call across this blog for the good citizens of Ridgewood to assemble at village hall and take back what is rightfully our.
Less police, more flagmen & flagwomen. These make-work jobs rip off the public. Unfortunately, this goes for the mayor’s husband and sons too.
I am sorry but 11:46 might reconsider slamming our Mayor. If both her sons qualified to become police that means that both passed the Civil Service exam, ranked highly on the exam, the physical, and the personal interview. I am sure she will continue to support the rights of the citizens of Ridgewood over the incorrectly perceived favoritism for the police.
