The “toxic” situation has not arrived. You are imagining a Walking Dead future. Relax.

People will shop if there are products that they want, at a good price.

Restaurants do fine. They all wish that they could sell alcohol and make big bucks on the bar. The restaurants, like Valley, are regional businesses. People come to Ridgewood to dine out, many love the fact that we have so many byob establishments. This is the crux of the “parking problem”. People from all over Bergen county come to Ridgewood. The busineses would like more but feel that they are hampered by lack of parking.

They need to come up with a solution that does not rely on me for funding.

  1. Many businesses invest in their own future…for our town that seems to be a novel idea but that’s usually how businesses expand…

Time for the Chamber of Commerce to come up with their own solutions and invest in their own future – in case you didn’t get the message, we aren’t going to pay for it…

From the Chamber’s website for new members:
Member Benefits – Membership decal with the Chamber decal – We promote “Spend Locally” and encourage shoppers and diners to look for the logo. The logo identifies your business as a member of the Chamber, and supporter of the Ridgewood community.

“supporter of the Ridgewood community” – that’s rich…

  2. Laissez-faire (/ˌlɛseɪˈfɛr-/, French: [lɛsefɛʁ] ( listen)) is an economic system in which transactions between private parties are free from government interference such as regulations, privileges, tariffs, and subsidies.

Chamber of Commerce: feel free to do it on your own

  3. Good point 8:52. If the business community were to figure out a way to self-fund the garage would it be correct to assume you would support the notion of such an endeavor. The garage would be run by a private vendor who would operate the garage and be free to set rates, hours of operation etc, etc. Laissez-faire is good.

  4. I don’t want a garage even if it’s free! UGH!!!!!!

  5. 11:01. If they could show a reasonable design and a rational business plan then I would think that should be considered. Two really big ifs.

  6. Who determines what is a “reasonable design” and “rational business plan” ? The current VC has determined the proposed plan is both reasonable and rational. The naysayers like some who have voiced opinions in this forum are holding the process up. My guess is the new VC will likely reduce the size of the garage somewhat but it will probably get built.. 87 years of studies conducted by trained experts in their field have consistantly indicated there is a need for a garage in Ridgewood. While recent demand may be somewhat lagging there is not one iota of proof that a garage would not be a long term benefit to both the CBD and the Village. If anyone can produce a professionally conducted and statistcally valid study which contradicts the data heretofore compiled bring it forth !! . In the absence thereof your comments against building a garage are just the idle jabber of an uninformed layman who has an unusally large mouth that is unfortunately coupled to a very small brain.

  7. Give it a rest Rurik.

  8. We need a RURIK blocker on the blog,,,he had his 2000 dog years with his rants…let’s give him a badly needed time out..simply you lost back of the Bus with the other loosers ..you think for a moment the other side would not have been C listing the Ridgewood Bloggers if they had defeated the Garage Referendum?.?.they were too busy circling their spin machines around the referendum info tables..have a nice day out there in spin land…time to clean out their many messes.

  9. You Lost RURIK..time for a crank nap..

  10. “87 years of studies…?”” Rurik or not, where the hell did he or she pull that from ? We have been here 34 years and only recently did we hear “garage.” Need more parking, maybe add a deck or two on each municipal lot, is what you “heard” maybe during the boom years, but never a garage at one end of the town. Oh, and if this is Rurik, and he has somehow come around to thinking that signing “Anonymous” is now a good thing, please encourage him to keep commenting. Let’s face it, taking apart his Valley BS is certainly enjoyable. Who knows, maybe the next time around he just might get to answering any questions that he gets asked. ANY answers would be an improvement on that track record.
