Clearly the garage is primarily for the benefit of the business community. It will help keep retailers and restaurants stay in business however it is equally clear that only those residents who commute to NY stand to benefit from a garage. Since many residents do not want or need the garage perhaps they shoulkd not be forced to help pay for it. On the other hand the business community should not be forced to bear the cost of items or services it does not need or use. Specifically, a SIGNIFICANT portion of the rent paid by tenants to their landlord goes to pay real estate taxes of which a large portion are used to pay for the school system. This begs the question why should the business community pay for sending residents kids to school ? Each should only pay for the services they use or need.
In conclusion, the residents should NOT be forced to underwrite the cost for a garage and the business community should NOT be forced to help pay for costs relating to schools or the Board of Ed.
I have fought against the garage from day one. But now that they want to build one the same footprint has Hudson Tt. it is complicated. The fact is Ridgewood is a commuter’s town. There is a photo of the train station in town hall, long history of Ridgewood noted for easy access to NYC.
The problem is the cost: Raising parking meter rates from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. to pay for garage. Would people resent that and not use Ridgewood CBD. It certainly would deter me , a village resident, from shopping and dining in CBD.
The congestion in Hudson St. area now is very bad during busy times. I avoid it now. With a garage it would be worse.
The cost to tax payers would end up being very high. Is it worth it overall. I would say no.
Future of Uber, self driving cars, commuters now working at home. How much use garage have.
Over all I would say not worth it. What do commuters say? Also cost of maintaining the garage. Cost of police protection of residents around garage.
Ok well I had a hard time reading that but, there you go.
I suppose the “photo” of the “train station” in Village Hall is a subliminal message to us residents? …get on the train…you MUST commute….I AM YOUR LEADER. yikes dude. Yea, were a commuter town. Always has been and even more of a reason for the garage. And stop with the police protection of the garage. You guys will come up with all kinds of bullshit to try and stop this. It’s to late. And besides its legal to carry a stun gun in nj now and soon I’ll have my conceal carry permit issued by the federal government because no thinks they can sit on my second amendment rights.
agree that we all
well I had a hard time reading that 9:57 post but, there you go.
It’s time for the moving trucks if we need stun or other guns to get home from the train station or Garazilla
