Reader says there must be a compelling for people to pay high property taxes and maintenance costs

The main industry that was the lifeline of a place like Ridgewood – Wall Street – is hemorrhaging jobs left, right and center. People no longer have the ability to sustain the on-going costs of homeownership while also saving for retirement.

In the past, people may have still swallowed the running cost as you were at least sitting on an asset (the home) that would increase in value, making for nice savings into retirement. That is done – home prices are going nowhere.

So unless there is a compelling reason, people are not going to sit around paying those high property taxes and maintenance costs, on top of ever increasing state and federal taxes.

  1. That’s right, their done. And the Unions at the BOE and VH just don’t get it. The exodus has been going on for some time now…Who, with or without children would live here and pay these taxes???

  2. Heard there was an extremely contentious planning board meeting last night. End result was that the board rejected a motion to extend Gail Price’s contract as attorney for the board. She is done. The is a request for proposals being posted to seek a new attorney.

  3. All the more reason to fight the senseless multifamily developments foisted on us by Mayor Arohnson.. if we don’t undo the nonsense he and his cronies left us with, we may in fact be done.

  4. These high property taxes are EXTORTION and THEFT
They have robbed my retirement funds to pad their golden parachutes

  5. You mean like what you charge for your services 6:36 PM. Your EXTORTION and THEFT is ok but not someone else huh. Too bad sucker, payback is a bitch ain’t it.
