Reader says Valley has one of the lowest charity care rates of all NJ hospitals

Valley has one of the lowest charity care rates of all NJ hospitals, that has been the case for a long time.

Some numbers at this link: https://www.nj.gov/health/charitycare/documents/sfy2012ccs.pdf

The numbers show how much charity care reimbursement each NJ hospital received.

Compare Valley there to others, even smaller hospitals such as Holy Name (361 beds) and Chilton(260 beds). You can also look at other years online and will find Valley provides among the least charity care of any NJ hospital.

You can also view numbers there for charity care at HUMC, also for Bergen Regional Med Center in Paramus and others.

  1. They never were generous. Not for Profit fools people. They are in the business of making money.

  2. That’s right #1, but their PR always tries to tell a diff story. This was originally a response to someone in a diff thread who was trying to say Valley did a lot of charity care — it seemed like someone drank the Kool-Aid.

  3. The only money Valley Hospital doles out is to groups that will further their cause for Development

  4. That is likely due to Valley’s being in the middle of a nice neighborhood. Not a lot of charity cases here now but once the town goes down the tubes they’ll be doling out free services left and right.

    1. Please do not equate charity work with the decay of the town.

  5. Valley leadership could care less about the short/long term problems this will cause. They will either be be retired or will have just left by the time this is completed. Just look at what the ex-CEO at Hackensack did.

  6. This is the reason Valley wants to stay hidden in Ridgewood. If they move their main hospital near 17 they might have more people who need charity care find them.
