Council reluctant to spend money on Clinton Sidewalks , after spending money on so many other seemingly worthless projects
Readers say the No Sidewalks Vote is a Huge lawsuit in the making if someone gets run over
Huge lawsuit in the making if someone gets run over and a precedent setting decision for the next time someone doesn’t want a sidewalk built or replaced in front of their home or business.
Bad call by Sedon on this one. He will be blamed by the 3 numb-nuts when it blows up in all of their faces.
And Attorney Rogers – what is he thinking?
Well Council not following the recommendation of you department heads will really help us if some kid get hit and their parents sue but Albert knows that because(Wait for it) he’s a hotel attorney
This street is very close to the school and is used by many children who walk in the middle of the street because it closed. The center of the world is not at Roberts St. This is a safety issue plane and simple.
Pedestrian safety especially when it comes to children trumps tax payers who don’t want a sidewalk. Where is our Mayor with ADA. Am I to take my walker up the middle of the street. Our Mayor is full of hot air.
Children walking in the middle of a public street? What is this Council thinking? Oh, right – 32 votes.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Where the heck is Clinton Ave…?
Its a major cut-through street (when its not closed) that runs from W. Ridgewood ave, across from Ridge school, to Godwin Ave.
Hey, listen to the Ustream of the meeting. Our mayor states WE’RE ALL ABOUT SAFETY.
More empty words
So I guess our Mayor thing it is more safe not to have sidewalks and have kids walk in the street. What a man.
no money in it
Where is our resident Councilman Lawyer in all this? I would think he would have voted no but I guess just a talking head taking is orders from Mayor Paul.
So when someone files suit following an injury, what is our planned response when the judge asks “why didn’t you follow your own Complete Streets policy?”
A Judge will never get a chance to ask that questions — unless the matter is brought to ” trial ” — And who would file that grievance ? And would the party have standing ?
Oh it get’s so complicated —
It has worked fine for decades. People shouldn’t be forced to have (probably pay for) and maintain sidewalks if they don’t want to.
#11 The traffic around the schools worked fine for decades then every family has at least 2 cars and not many kids walk to school.
#10 Let see if I can bring you out of the stone age Who would file the grievance. The guardians of the child that got hit because there were no sidewalks. Would the party have standing. Both the Chief of Police and the Village Engineer bot recommend that sidewalk be installed. You right that it will never go to trial because the Village will settle
The folks on Clinton are being selfish. It is about all residents, not just their private street.
I am surprised by the council action.
This street should be open to traffic except from 8-9am and 230-330pm.
Giving them their own street for the whole day, then having the balls to ask the rest of us to pave it, without sidewalks for ‘the kids’ is ridiculous.
# !4 The next thing they will want will be a gate on both ends of the road. Just kidding. I don’t blame the people on Clinton for asking. I blame the Council for not doing the right thing.
Mike, Mike, Mike. What were you thinking?
I’d like my street shut to traffic all day too.
But I’m not ‘special’ like those residents of Clinton Ave.
That street has been that way for four decades if there was an accident the child’s guardians would be hard pressed to prove a legitimate tort when they knew of the condition beforehand and there was never an actionable incident in 40 previous years. The fact that the council does not do what the school parents want does not make the village automatically open to catastrophic litigation. In the 60’s there was such a heavy student population the students went to school at ridge in portable trailers until orchard was built. The student foot traffic was considerably heavier than now. Ridge had close to 500 students by itself a lot of which went down Clinton without incident until orchard was built. Reading some of the posts is reminiscent of do what I want or I’ll sue ( or I’ll hold my breath until until you do what I want.)
I drive through there all the time BECA– USE they have that annoying sign and the annoying “KIDS LIVE HERE” signs. Never have got a ticket. It is a public street – no? I just ignore it and roll through. Murray has no sidewalks either and it isn’t closed – wonder why?
Is there a method to remove the sidewalks in front of my house. Do I need
to send a letter to the Council? Does anyone know how I can do it. I am old and tired of shoveling snow.
Lets start a movement. KEEP RIDGEWOOD SIDEWALK FREE.
