Ridgewood NJ, The Bergen County community is mourning the loss of a local legend. Stephen Jordan, affectionately known to music fans as Steve “White Pants” Jordan, passed away on April 17, 2026, in his lifelong home of Ridgewood, New Jersey.

A dedicated educator, a charismatic musician, and a lover of the great American outdoors, Steve leaves behind a legacy that spans decades of teaching at Wallington High School and countless performances across North Jersey’s coffee shops and bars.

From Wall Street to the Classroom: A Life of Purpose

Born in New York in 1952 and raised in Ridgewood, Steve’s journey wasn’t a straight line. After graduating from Ridgewood High School in 1970, he explored various paths—from driving taxis to a stint at Merrill-Lynch. However, it was his time volunteering at Camp Sunshine and Snowflake (supporting those with Muscular Dystrophy) that revealed his true calling.

Steve traded the office for the classroom, earning his degree from William Paterson University and embarking on a legendary career teaching Special Education at Wallington High School.

The Legend of “White Pants” Jordan

Steve wasn’t your average teacher. He was famous for bringing his guitar into the classroom, using music to connect with his students. His lessons were so popular that students from other classes would often sneak in just to hear him play.

Outside of school, he was a staple of the local music scene. Known by his stage name, Steve “White Pants” Jordan—a nod to his signature performance attire—he brought wit, charisma, and talent to every stage he stepped on.

A Life of Adventure and Family

When he wasn’t teaching or performing, Steve was an avid traveler. Whether he was marveling at the California Redwoods, hiking the Rocky Mountains, or road-tripping across the U.S. with his dog, Cindy, Steve lived with a sense of wanderlust.

Above all, his greatest pride was his family. He is survived by:

  • His sons: Eric and Ryan (and daughter-in-law Marasia).

  • His sisters: Anne and Jeanne.

  • His beloved nieces and nephews.

“Steve had a natural charisma that could light up a room. He was down-to-earth, fun-loving, and deeply caring.”
