Trenton NJ, In preparation for the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines to New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 207, which automatically enrolls residents who choose to receive a COVID-19 vaccine into the state’s existing vaccine registry. The Governor’s Executive Order changes inclusion into the New Jersey Immunization Information System from an opt-in to an opt-out program for residents who elect to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. That group of residents will be automatically enrolled into the system, and will then be permitted to opt-out of the registry 30 days after the public health emergency expires. Currently, all individuals born on or after January 1, 1998 are automatically enrolled in the registry, unless they opt-out of the registry. Any individual born prior to January 1, 1998 can elect to opt-in to the registry.
“As we continue to prepare for the first tranche of vaccines in New Jersey, we are exploring every avenue to maximize efficacy and efficiency,” said Governor Murphy. “We’re taking this step today to ensure that New Jerseyans who choose to receive a COVID-19 vaccine get the most effective course, on the proper timetable, without logistical or bureaucratic hurdles in the way.”
“Accurate accounting of every dose of vaccine is vital to monitoring implementation progress of New Jersey’s vaccination plan,” said New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli. “The system will also allow us to ensure residents are returning for the second dose of vaccine.”

Hi Oliver. That is definitely a sane response to compare vaccine distribution and tracking to pogroms or the holocaust. Without a state-wide health care registry that tracks all residents and their status in receiving a vaccine that requires 2 doses to administer, what would your proposal be? The honor system?

No, not the honor system. Issue two cards or stamps on a passport / ID card / drivers license to people when they get the vaccine. One for the first dose, one for the second. No need for government involvement or databases.

My comment was not about the constitutionality of forcing people to take the vaccine. Frankly, I can see both sides of that issue, and hopefully you can as well. We live in a free country that allows people to have religious or other beliefs that are important to them and in many instances transcend what the Government can control. That doesn’t mean that people with a belief system can impose that system on others. So, if somebody doesn’t think taking the vaccine is a good thing, the Government can’t force them to, but it can restrict that person from being in contact with other people.
That’s the idea behind forcing kids to prove they have been vaccinated to attend school. It’s fine to say a person has to prove that they have taken the vaccine to be able to do something that might put others at risk. That’s very different from the Government keeping a list, which could be used to round people up that haven’t obeyed. That’s why I made the Holocaust reference. Do you really want the Government to have that information available? What happens when they want to keep information contrary to one of your beliefs?
why would I get a vaccine when I have a .005 chance of death? What is my risk in taking an unproven synthetic vaccine (not a true vaccine, it is NOT like traditional vaccines where you get a small injection of the virus to build antibodies)? No one knows. You go first. Ill take my chances and wait to see how it works out. Give it to those that are at risk….I am not.
So assuming 50% voluntarily get vaccinated and 50% don’t (including me and my family). How do I endanger someone who has been immunized? If I get on a plane where 199 passengers are vaccinated and I am not, how in the world do I endanger them especially if out of concern for my health I also have a N95 mask on?
It is clear to me the purpose of all this terror is to lead to a nationwide mandatory vaccination which Biden would sign in a heartbeat. Nobody knows what will this vaccine do to people 1 year from the moment it is administered.
I’ll take my chances with Covid and suffer the consequences if i get it.
If a vaccine has ‘side effects’ years later, I’m not willing to be a guinea pig.
As someone who has endured a nasty regamine of chemotherapy, I am well aware of side effects that occur years later. (=looking at a future possibility of leukemia etc but thats the price i pay for a possible next 20 years of health after killing my cancer)
This vaccine is there for those who choose to put it into their bodies, without knowing how long it will last (flu shots are only good for a year or so) OR more importantly…what if any future side effects will be.
I’m sure there is a big market for anti virus vaccines that would enrich pharmaceutical companies. How come there has been no vaccine for AIDS, Lyme disease or the common cold.

How is this not against the HIPA LAW? Will this allow employers and other agencies to look into your private business?
Pamela – HIPAA prevents medical providers (doctors, hospitals, insurance cos, etc.) from sharing your data. It is not relevant here.
Your “private business” here — I suppose — is whether you took the vaccine or not; not sure how either would be used against you by an employer/other agency. I suppose an employer could deny you a job because they think you may represent a health risk to their staff/customers if you did not take a vaccine. That said, are you aware of “a vaccination record” being a typical requirement for private employers now? I am not aware, so why would a COVID vaccine become a requirement now? There is nothing to suggest that America would tolerate that and it would anyway immediately be fought in courts if it was even attempted (which it wouldn’t be — see above re: American intolerance to such a requirement).
All this drama re: this registry is unwarranted — no one is being forced to take the vaccine. That may drag out mask wearing and social distancing rules, and we will probably see continued death rates of .005 (or whatever was cited above) until we reach herd immunity, but America has broadly indicated that that amount of death is acceptable in order to bring back bachelor parties or whatever . Plus, you can opt out of this registry as soon as the public health emergency is declared over. There are much bigger — and actual! — invasions of our privacy occurring daily by public and private entities; *those* ones are a much better privacy hill to die on.
Anon – The drama is warranted because the registry will likely cause a lot of people not to take the vaccine for fear of getting on a list. I certainly don’t want to be on a list but do want to get the vaccine, so I will try to find a way around it, like using an address in a different state or something. Not everyone has the motivation or ability to do that, so they will just pass, and that’s bad for everyone. The State should be doing everything is possibly can to convince people that the vaccine is safe (assuming it is) and to remove hurdles in the way of people taking it. Putting peoples’ names in a book is not the way to do that. Opt-out 30 days after the emergency is over – seriously?

I hope we don’t wake up some day and find that people are ignoring traffic lights and police instructions. People seem to realize those societal norms are for the common good. They protect fellow citizens and ourselves.
Taking a covid vaccine is the best way to deal with the devastation of the current pandemic. This should be a societal norm enforced like other safety mandates.
It is not a vaccine. A vaccine is a small dose of a virus to help the body build immunity. This is not that. This is synthetic, has been pushed through in 6 months, does NOT have FDA “approval” – but rather approved for emergency use and no one knows the side effects. If all goes well, the FDA will “approve” it in 2023. If you are worried about Uncle Larry or Aunt Marge, let them get it. Worried about your kids? Go get them the shot. You don’t want the grandparents to be at risk – go get them in line.
I am not, neither is my family. Ill wait. They are already having reports in the UK of side effects that were not expected and won’t give it to kids or those with allergies. What are we going to find out in 6 months? A year? 5 years?
When they come to you with a chip to implant because of the greater good – you gonna line up for that too? I have a .005% of dying – Ill take that bet gladly. If you feel you are at risk and don’t like the odds, go get the shot. Simple.
