Ridgewood NJ, Attention Ridgewood parents, on Monday, May 13, U got Brains, a Ridgewood High School student club, and Detective Anthony Mormino of the Ridgewood Police Department and School Resource Officer will discuss driving under the influence and the potential criminal and civil liabilities for parents and guardians who provide alcohol to minors. This presentation will start at 7 p.m. in the Learning Commons at Ridgewood High School.
Students at RHS have participated in the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey for the past two years. The U Got Brains Champion Schools Teen Safe Driving Program works with schools throughout New Jersey. This year 10 sophomore RHS students with their advisor, Wellness teacher Peter Kay, have developed a campaign, Wood Against Dangerous Driving, highlighting the dangers of distracted driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol. During the student presentation, parents will have the opportunity to wear a set of Fatal Vision goggles that allow the wearer to experience varying levels of Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.), which highlights the dangers of driving while intoxicated.
Detective Anthony Mormino has been the School Resource Officer working with students at all schools throughout the district since September 2018. His presentation will focus on the often-overlooked potential criminal and civil liabilities for parents and guardians who provide real property and alcohol to minors.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to come, talk with students and learn about the U Got Brains Program and meet Detective Anthony Mormino. Refreshments will be served.
