The project was initiated by American Legion Post 53, the Ridgewood Village Council approved at the June 14, 2023 Public Meeting placement of a permanent tribute to Gold Star Families in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square. Referred by some as “the unseen side of Memorial Day.” The monument is meant to be an instrument of expression, loss and grief to portray the emotion and strength of Gold Star Family members, the anguish that families experience with any military loss. It is hoped that this project will be finished for unveiling on Gold Star Family Day in late September, 2024 or on Veterans’ Day 2024, in conjunction with the centennial of the War Memorial. This community project is dependent on contributions from local supporters. Please send your donations to:

The American Legion is the world’s largest veterans’ service organization. We assist veterans, their families, and their communities.
