East Rutherford NJ, Ridgewood emerged victorious Friday night at MetLife Stadium over Union in a 41-37 stunner. In one of the most exciting games of the year, the Maroons outlasted five different lead changes in a wild finish scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter and rallied back from a 12-point deficit at the half.
Union dominated the first half behind the passing of Andrew Sanborn, but Ridgewood dramatically altered the course of things in the last two quarters with its steady diet of Wing-T misdirection. Sealing the win when Tommy Bourque intercepted Union quarterback Andrew Sanborn with two seconds to play, on the Maroons 14 yard line,
Ridgewood (10-2) captured its first North Group 5 championship and gained a measure of redemption after falling to Piscataway in the 2018 regional final.
