RIDGEWOOD — In an effort to add parking spaces at the train station, the council is weighing a plan to reduce the size of a grass median and create new spots for compact cars.

The design, presented by Village Engineer Chris Rutishauser to the council Wednesday, calls for narrowing the island on the western side of the train tracks by 4.5 feet to accomodate parking for compact cars on both sides of the median. The new layout would add 41 spots.

  1. I am curious why this plan was not considered less than eight years ago when the train station parking lot was last altered. Did Chris R not think it was a good idea then, was it never considered? Parking was surely an issue 10 years ago. Why are we considering renovations to a parking lot that was so recently modified – are we admitting that it wasn’t done very well, or at least did not maximize parking back then? Perhaps this was considered and determined to be a bad idea.

Would like to see the town engineers at the parking lot at 7am and again between 6 and 7pm when the traffic is at it’s highest. Adding more cars will only serve to create more gridlock at the traffic light on Ridgewood Ave. If more cars are added maybe something could be done to the traffic light to allow the cars to get out of the parking lot when trains arrive.

  2. The only problem is that the majority of the residents who can afford to park there don’t drive compact cars.

  3. worry about repaving other lot’s in town. cottage lot, hudson lot , franklin lot. they need repaving. I been parking in the c b d over 20′ years for work. it’s time for repaving. oak ‘st , broad ‘st needs repaving.

  4. Agree with shoper 12:15..its been pointed out so many times before ,cottage place lot and other muni lots are like an artillery range of deep potholes…if Parkers fall an break bones and sue town for outright neglect..completely mill and repave and
repaint stall lines for all of those lots.people don’t see those lots as safe and useable.Impossible to shovel and plow those surfaces to any degree of safety..they are ice fields and broken unsafe utilities…shackle and spit
Fill never worked and was a waste of towns money.

  5. 9:55 is right..this is the rich folks perk lot. Commoners need not apply..fascinating that during religious holidays
and summer vacations train lot spots goes unused even for green pass holders at 750 a clip,no upgrades allowed by the power teams on VC

  6. Yes Amamom….I was there 10 years ago. Studies are ALWAYS done with new council members arriving. Stalls are shortened, ect, ect.
There is just not enough room …period.

Hey….mabey a commuter garage ? Has THAT ever been discussed ?

  7. This Council isn’t interested in commuters – they don’t vote in Municipal elections.

  8. A commuter garage over there actually makes a lot of sense. More commuters could park adjacent to the southbound track which makes the morning rush far easier. This is a far better solution than needing to walk all the way up from the proposed garage at Hudson St.

  9. As a retired poll worker, I would like to inform 10:59 that commuters do vote. They are lined up before the polls open and before they close. So, yes, our council does care about commuters.
