Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood is celebrating a major achievement in community safety! Ridgewood received Gold Level Recognition from the New Jersey Safe Routes to School Program for its impactful work throughout 2023. This award highlights the Village’s commitment to making streets safer and more accessible for everyone, especially young cyclists and pedestrians.
Key Initiatives in 2023
This recognition comes as a result of multiple safety-focused initiatives, including:
- Learn-to-Ride and Bike-Safety Classes: These educational sessions encouraged safe biking skills for Ridgewood’s young residents.
- Annual Crossing Guard Training: Comprehensive training to ensure crossing guards are equipped to protect pedestrians.
- Operation Bright Idea: Ridgewood’s Traffic Safety Bureau spearheaded this project to enhance pedestrian visibility at night by installing specialized LED lighting at 11 key intersections.
“Operation Bright Idea” was a collaborative effort between the Village’s Traffic Safety Bureau, Engineering Department, Citizens Safety Advisory Committee, and PSE&G Electric. With the support of the Parks and Recreation Department and EZ Ride, these upgrades have helped make Ridgewood safer for children, residents, and visitors alike.
