Ridgewood Fire Department Drought Advisory Putting a Damper on Halloween and Diwali Festivities

Ridgewood NJ, as Halloween and Diwali approach, the Ridgewood Fire Department has issued important safety guidance for fire-related festivities due to the ongoing drought and dry conditions. For the safety of all residents and to reduce fire risks, the department strongly discourages any use of open flames outdoors, including sparklers and fireworks, in line with New Jersey Forest Fire Service’s recent statewide ban on charcoal grills, bonfires, and firepits.

Fire Safety Tips for Halloween and Diwali Celebrations

If you decide to use any fireworks, including sparklers, please take the following precautions:

• Soak the area: Make sure the ground and surrounding area are thoroughly soaked with water.
• Have an extinguisher on hand: Keep a fire extinguisher, hose, or bucket of water nearby in case of emergencies.
• Avoid dry areas: Stay clear of dry brush, leaves, and other flammable materials, as these can easily ignite and spread fire quickly.
• Emergency Response: If any fire occurs, call 9-1-1 immediately.
