Ridgewood Firefighters Free Elderly Driver Trapped after Accident
March 2,2016
Ridgewood NJ, The elderly female driver of a Chevrolet Impala involved in a two (2) vehicle crash at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Bellair Road in Ridgewood on Tuesday, 03/01, at approximately 4:15 PM, was trapped in her vehicle until freed by Ridgewood firefighters using forcible entry tools.
The victim requires the services of a walker and was unable to be removed from the vehicle via the passenger side door. She was transported to The Valley Hospital by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance with what appeared to have been non life threatening injuries. The other driver also sustained a minor injury in the crash, but did not appear to have been transported by ambulance for treatment. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Ridgewood PD is investigating the incident.
If i read this correctly the woman needs a walker then how is she able to drive?
My mother uses a walker for emphysema . . . she can drive just fine. Lots of other reasons to use walkers . . . stability when standing, etc.
11:12AM – please think before you comment. Otherwise, you look like an idiot. People use walkers for a variety of reasons none of which would effect their ability to drive. Obesity, respiratory, balance, bad knees, to name a few
Even people with no use of their legs can drive in a car with hand controls like the one FDR had made for him so that he could tool around the back roads of Georgia when he stayed at Warm Springs. You can see that car, in a cool interactive display, on the below-ground floor of the gorgeously redone FDR museum in Hyde Park–well worth a trip!
11:54 – did you, even for a moment, consider that 11:12 might be asking a straight up question?
Rather than calling 11:12 an idiot in the future you might just answer the question like 11:44 did.
Yes, coming to conclusions without all the facts usually backfires… many people regardless of age need walkers and have all of their faculties but I hear elderly driver and accident more often than I used to… maybe instead of having the red license plate tag only for teen drivers maybe there should be a tag for drivers over a certain age… many countries also require drivers over 70 need to take written tests and sometimes road tests…
can i use one when i,m drinking.
Paul Smith – 11:44 and 11:54 are, in fact, the same person (me). I never called 11:12 an idiot. I asked them to think before posting otherwise they might look like an idiot (not to mention rude) And I don’t consider 11:12s question to be a straight up question; it is a thinly veiled insult to people who use walkers. Had 11:12 paused for a moment, and thought, he/she wouldn’t need to ask that insulting question.
Paul Smith – Sorry, I meant 3:01.
How does everyone know who was at fault?
