Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood High School went from #7 in 2008 (Dr.Fishbein took over that year) to #36 in 2018. He says the drop is because we have high academic standards, not because quality has declined. I don’t get that nonlinear explanation – sorry. Someone remind him that ranking is a relative measurement, not absolute.
Ridgewood has fallen in all other rankings I have checked. Someone should check to see what’s going on.
I think Dr.Fishbein and BOE put way too much focus on facilities than actual education. They are not running a hospitality business, yet, it sure feels like they are based on constant reno discussions, architect meetings, facility tours of boiler rooms, etc.
There’s too much emphasis on extracurricular and enrichment versus core curricular. Proposed $30 million borrowings to build a 1000 seat Broadway stage and $100 million addition to the debt load ($40 million existing), none of which is for academics, are clear warning signs.
Board members are looking to get their personal favors from the suprindent. He is making them happy and they are ignoring his errors.

Actually, someone remind him that HS rankings don’t mean anything.
Agree that ranking are meaningless, especially without the accompanying methodology.
Want to compare HS? Look at ridgewood’s profile document and compare it to others. It’s incredibly impressive and probably better than any NJ school that isn’t a magnet.
What is the “profile document”? Why don’t you compare it for us and provide some side by side comparison instead of just claiming that it’s ‘impressive”?
