With a population of 26,043, Ridgewood ranks among the top with a median household income of $277,428. Despite the high cost of living—averaging $106,217 annually—and a home value of $1,095,623, the town maintains a livability score of 88. It is also one of the safest, with a violent crime rate of 0.30 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 7.63 per 1,000.

2. Westfield

Westfield is known for its blend of wealth and safety. The town has a population of 30,839 and a median household income of $281,738. Home values are higher here, averaging $1,182,660, and the annual cost of living is $111,730. Westfield boasts a violent crime rate of just 0.16 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 7.61 per 1,000, alongside a livability score of 87.

3. Glen Ridge

6. Chatham

The smallest of the towns, Chatham has a population of 9,199 and a median household income of $307,559. The average home value is $1,260,189, and the annual cost of living is $117,603. Chatham ranks the safest with a violent crime rate of just 0.11 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 7.20 per 1,000, earning it a livability score of 81.
