RIDGEWOOD — The village pulled back a proposal to ban bagged, unsolicited advertising materials.

Mayor Paul Aronsohn told the council on Wednesday that an accord had been reached by village officials and Stephen A. Borg, president of North Jersey Media Group.

  1. So Arhonson talked to the owner of the Record and got no results for Ridgewood residents? How was good about the dialogue — did the Record promise him favorable coverage for his next run for office if he pulled the proposal? Seriously, what did the Mayor get for the village in exchange for pulling the proposal?

  2. Excellent! Good to see our government stand up for its citizens against an overbearing private corporation.

  3. Does the Mayor think we all just got off of the boat or what?

Borg threatened to sue if the Mayor pushed for adoption of an ordinance, plain and simple. The concessions offered by Borg were only so that Aronsohn could save face with those who wanted the advertising stopped.

You can fool some of the people some of the time Paul, but you can’t fool us all of the time.

  4. How did the Council get involved in this “trash advertising dispute” in the firs place….. ?

Mr. Borg of the Record, in my opinion has always been a fair minded owner of the Record and tried, in the early days, to assist this contributor to augment the various news forums .

  5. I would like Mr. Borg’s address. I have some trash (I mean advertising) I’d like to leave on his property. Anyone have his address? Perhaps we should collect the garbage he leaves on our property and leave it in front of his home at the end of each day.

  6. I’ve got an idea. Cancel your Record subscription if you have one until the Record agrees not to leave garbage on your neighbors’ driveways.

The Record subscription is the garbage.
At least some of the advertising materials are useful.

  8. Pretty easy to find Stephen Borg’s address through the wonder of google…perhaps he would like us to collect these advertisements and deliver them to his driveway

  9. #6 — We cancelled our Record subscription two years ago, and they *still* throw this garbage at the end of our driveway.

  10. Borg lives in Tenafly, New Jersey.

  11. In an.attempt to sell more papers and appear relevant The Bergen Record sensationalized an anecdotal incident which nearly wiped out a small mom and pop financial service industry in NJ. 15 years ago.
It cost us many hundreds of thousands of dollars and many sleepless nights to repair the damaged the Record caused with their biased “reporting”.
I am enjoykng watching The Record die a slow painful death at the hands of electronic media.
When you are wronged.needlessly you never forget.
I urge everyone to please cancel their subscription to this dirty rag.
