Ridgewood NJ, according to Village Manager Keith Kazmark the pedestrian plaza in Ridgewood is being suspending for the month of August.
In a Facebook post Kazmark said , “With overwhelming support from our community, the Ridgewood Village Council brought back dining corrals, year-round outdoor dining and the pedestrian plaza this summer. Initially, the response to the pedestrian plaza was very good, with many people coming out to support it. Most importantly, it was well received by the community and our businesses.
After school let out in June, and with the hotter summer months upon us, combined with record travel numbers across the country – we saw foot traffic fade in the CBD. This is consistent with what is happening in other towns in the area.
As a result, we have decided to suspend the pedestrian plaza for the month of August and will re-evaluate bringing it back after Labor Day, with input from our residents and the business community. Please be aware that the dining corral program and year-round outdoor dining will continue, as will events, activities and concerts in Van Neste Square.
It has been and will continue to our goal to attract additional patrons to downtown Ridgewood”

Oh. What a surprise. Said no one ever
Susan was right all along…
It was NEVER busy, and let’s stop calling it a “Pedestrian Plaza.” The “Street Closures” were for the sole benefit of restaurants that didn’t need extra seating during the summer months because a substantial number of Ridgewood residents travel during the summer, like they always do. This was just another “damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead” move by the Council.
With overwhelming support from our community? Complete nonsense. New guy is drinking the kool aid. It was a complete fail…no foot traffic so lets bs the public to save face.
The new guy was Vagianos campaign manager and is his puppet.
Watch a meeting or two to see how he obeys vagianos orders.
Well check around on the “new guy”. If only people really knew some of what happened in Elmwood Park ……
guess the Facebook big mouths didn’t go shopping
thats what happens when you listen to all the “Facebook know -it -alls”
Reminder Facebook is not the real world
should have asked the merchants
crickets from the big mouths
if some one would have done their home work they would have know it was not going to work out
Way to waste the taxpayers money, this Mayor and his 3 stooges have done more to hurt Ridgewood than to help. Susan was right in SO many ways, this is the first shoe to drop, there is more coming.
The only thing that was “right” about Susan was that she left, with an overwhelming loss on election day.
Thank God !!
Susan did TONS that nobody even knows about, and never took credit.
She was the only council member in years to really study and understand the budget. Look for continued property tax increases and misspending under the current know-nothing regime. And then VOTE THEM OUT.
guess you cant a$$kiss your way to success
May be saraceno stopped funding it as he will need to save money for the legal troubles with NJ transit?
Like we said, the mayor and council are the boss. And it’s amazing. you know who’s crying because they are not making any overtime. Ha’ha’
people feared the over aggressive squirrels
residents don’t support the CBD
“residents don’t support the CBD” True! How could you, when it costs an arm and a leg to park downtown. It’s ridiculous .
so you can afford a $15 glass of wine or a $40 meal, but you can’t afford the $2.50 to park for the time hanging in a restaurant? You better stay home in your basement and never come upstairs again!
I dont WANT to Pay For Parking in Ridgewood – and I won’t.
There are MANY OTHER very nice shopping downtowns that don’t require a DNA sample and Brokerage statement for the honor of parking on the decaying streets.
I’ll spend 4 bucks on Gas and a half hours drive to avoid a 2 dollar meter!
Also, and this is totally unrelated, but I’d like to spite my face, so bye-bye nose!
Keep Dreaming.
You might even convince yourself.
People do what THEY want… not what YOU deem is right.
And clearly, most people DO NOT want to park or shop in Ridgewood as evidenced by the perpetually empty garage and deserted pedestrian plaza.
but don’t let facts disturb your delusions…
34 years here and I have NEVER had a problem parking. NEVER. Just walk a block or so through our lovely downtown
I already pay for parking …it’s called taxes. And lots of them..
Calm down, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. You can park for three hours in a brand-new garage for less than a cup of Starbucks burnt coffee.
Calm Down.
People WANT to buy a cup of Starbucks – they feel the cost is justified.
People DO NOT want to park for three hours in the GINORMOUS GARAGE nor shop in Ridgewood – they do not feel the cost is justified.
Your comparisons are only relevant to you and don’t mean anything to anyone else.
The headline should be “Restaurants Rob Ridgewood Residents”
The Headline should say “Are A$$ Clown Mayor and his 3 flunkies are Robing Ridgewood Residents”
Where did the millions of dollars healthbarn got go? Does feed the frontlines have an accountant?
Aka feed the frontlines. Where did healthbarns gifted millions go?
There’s no more money for overtime, budgets are frozen. No new hire employees, if they are not making any money from the parking garage that’s going to be the town’s downfall big time . The next budget is going to be a cut. Big. Big time.
Good! We have lots to cut!
Yeah like Pee Wee and his 3 flunkies
but we gave Healthbarn millions upon millions for its greek to me to charge for meals for the frontlines? I don’t get it and wonder where all the money went? what frontlines?
People almost crucified Susan when she clearly stated what they are now saying about PP. In my opinion she lost her seat mainly because of her stance on PP. There are liberals, and also extreme liberals. The ones in RW belong to the latter group. Totally shallow and with no ability for critical thinking, always going with the hype as a herd. They are destroying RW.
I agree. I think the PP looked fun. but not every weekend. didn’t Siobhan
and the mayor run on this platform or severely supported it and said they would make it happen every weekend?
They are saying at least two employees in every department will be cut . All supervisors will be converted crew leaders. And yes they will work.( Not riding around) in high end s u v ‘s . Big change is coming.
Not True!!
The first PP problem is the Pedestrian Plaza that clearly didn’t work. The second PP problem will now be Peter Primavera the supposed Historical Consultant who will latch on to Ridgewood’s pocketbook in the hope that he can fool this giant smoke and mirrors show of dummies and baffle us with his BS. Move the house. Yeah, right Peter. And Paul sits there and thanks him for his thorough assessment. What an expensive joke.
You might be curious why anyone would physically move a house—like, dig it out of the ground and take it to another location—rather than just find a new one like most people do. Typically, historic homes are the best candidates to justify the enormous expense and effort this process requires.
Take the 124-year old, 3,000-square-foot Mackenzie House on the Wayne State University campus in Detroit that will be uprooted in 2019 to make space for a new lobby and performance complex. It’ll be a $750,000 project to just go around the block. According to the National Register of Historic Places, more than 95,000 properties have been listed in the National Register as “worthy of preservation.”
Guess what folks blocking off the downtown does not scream “shop here” but “drive on.”
PV is the best leader to transform our once beautiful village into a sewer.
Big changes come in. It’s true. Thumbs up you’ll be changing your underwear.
