During the assault, the driver commanded his dog, which was unsecured in his vehicle, to attack the officers. The dog jumped from an open window and charged at the officers which then forced the officers to neutralize the dog. The dog was taken to Oradell Animal Hospital for treatment. Mr. Paduani was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, terroristic threats, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance in addition to various motor vehicle summons. He was unable to post the $50,000 bail and was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending his court appearance.

Yea, All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But your guilty of posting a stupid heading to this story.
Thankfully our officers are safe. I would guess their safety in part is a result of them being able to block out stories like the one from Glen Rock where an officer was suspended because he shot a dog in a backyard. When it is dog again police I’ll take the police every time.
It was actually in Wyckoff. Lets not accuse Glen Rock of something they didn’t do. And the heading to this is horrible. How about simply, Officers Forced to Neutralize Dog??? The heading gives a totally different meaning then what happened.
Put the bottle down when writing the byline…Sheesh.
Ridgewood Police forced the officers to Neutralize the Dog that was Ordered to Attack them,
Really, this is the best you can do for a headline, Geesh!
other than poor grammar, the headline is fine..
“Ridgewood Police Officers (Forced to) Neutralize Dog (that was) Commanded to Attack Them”
The poor dog is probably better off now. My guess is that the owner wasn’t exactly of sound mind. On a side note, be careful when thinking about giving the finger to another driver. There’s some real nuts out there.
It would have helped if the police department released a statement about it soon after it happened. Residents heard the shots and saw all the police activity. Was there a dangerous person on the loose?
Our village departments use social media when it suits them. This indident deserved timely notification to residents. I do not need updates on recycling efforts.
I totally agree with the police, they did the right thing……a pit bull jumping out a car window, with the sole purpose of attacking the officer, is totally justified. And as for the number of shots, it is very true that numerous shots are needed to subdue an attack dog like the pit bull.
Not for nothing, but wouldn’t you want a vet to neutralize a dog? Our police are great and multitalented, but sheesh! can’t they be relieved of the job of keeping a dog from breeding, and right there in the street, with no surgical tools?
Frankly given the Ridgewood police excellent record dealing with bears and other wild animals in town , I am certain they only did what was necessary
Im sure if there was a dangerous person in the area they would have notified the residents imminently but since that was not the case an investigation took place in a timely fashion and information was distributed when the investigation was concluded. No immediate danger to resident.
There always a few who are never happy .
The family setup a go fund page for the loss of their family dog. Not one family members Facebook profile has a picture of this dog in any album.
Glad the officers were not hurt.
