Ridgewood NJ, as E-bikes and similar motorized 2-3 wheel vehicles become more popular, the Ridgewood Police are seeing an increase in dangerous behavior and motor vehicle collisions involving these types of “bicycles”.
They are becoming very popular with 14 -16 year old juveniles and are being operated on our roadways. Some are not regulated while others require registration, insurance, and a license.
We encourage parents to be mindful of what your child is using. Recognize that there may be restrictions on them, and that even the non-regulated ones are easy to modify into higher speed bikes.

What vehicles are allowed on sidewalks and on the Bike Path? It looks like the gas powered vehicles require licensing and insurance but the electric do not.
At the County Bike Path I was silently passed (electric motor) by an e-bike going at a high rate of speed. It was startling and dangerous.
