Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police report that on July 10th, the Ridgewood Police responded and investigated nine reports of car burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles. All the vehicles were reported to have been left unlocked during the overnight hours.

Additionally on July 12th, six car burglaries were reported to have occurred during the overnight hours. All six vehicles were left unlocked and discovered to have been entered and rifled through. Only one victim reported personal property was taken from the vehicle at this time.

The Ridgewood Police are investigating multiple car burglaries and thefts from within. Multiple vehicles have been stolen and in all cases the vehicles have been left unlocked.

We remind everyone to please remove all of your valuables from your vehicles and lock the vehicle doors. Remove all key fobs and valet keys from your vehicle.

These types of crimes are preventable and are crimes of opportunity.

  1. I am surprised that RPD did not add a comment that indicated that these professional car thieves are not looking for confrontation and we should all relax. Crimes of opportunity. Really. Some HS kid stealing change is an crime of opportunity not someone with a plan to steal multiple cars.

  2. I had a bike filched from my garage 5 years. They took 2 bikes from my neighbor’s house on the same night.

So I bought a new side door that locked and added a light.

Last year I bought a Ring camera for the backyard that has a view of the garage.

My neighbor, currently out of the country, purchased a burglar alarm service last month.

    Kind of sad…

  3. for what it is worth X ; my car was locked, there were car stealing tools and equipment on my lawn when we chased them off. it was not high school kids stealing my change.

  4. This is what happens when the town goes from “right leaning” to “far left”

    I can’t tell…
Are you a troll or are you an idiot?
    .
Let’s just go with your assumption that it’s HS kids. We should all “relax” because RHS kids think its OK to steal from their neighbor’s cars?
    .
Or let’s go with your “non-confrontational professional thieves”. We should all “relax” since professional thieves are stealing our property from our driveways, but if we confront them they’ll run away?
    .
I hope you are a troll (for your sake) but I suspect you are not…

  6. All the silly virtue signaling makes the town a taget

  7. The perpetrators are most definitely *not* high school kids. This is a professional car theft ring that targets “nice” cars from affluent neighborhoods (e.g. Ridgewood, Saddle River, Alpine, et al.). The stolen cars are taken to Paterson or Newark to the chopped up. The parts are then shipped overseas. The police caught a few of the lower-tier criminals in this car theft ring the other night (great job!). The ring leader(s) are still at large.

In the wake of this, I’ve had a security system and 7 cameras installed. I also keep my guns loaded now. Bring it!
