the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood resident Michael S. Winograd is running for President of US Soccer. Winograd played Division I college soccer at Lafayette College and professionally in Israel. In 2005, he was a member of the silver medal U.S. Maccabiah Masters soccer team. He served as an assistant Men’s Soccer coach at the University of Richmond, where, in addition to his coaching, recruiting and scouting duties, he helped organize and manage the largest NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Final Four in NCAA history. He has coached at numerous youth soccer camps, including the University of Virginia and Phillips Exeter Academy residential camps. In a 2013 letter to the NSCAA Director of Coaching, former Richmond Head Coach Jeff Gettler remarked that in his 36 years of college head coaching and over 16 years of serving as a USSF and NSCAA staff coach, Winograd was “easily” one of the top people he had worked with.” Gettler went on to describe Winograd as “an outstanding individual with a dynamic way with people” and praised his “ability to communicate” and “depth of knowledge.”
Michael S. Winograd
Candidate for President of the United States Soccer Federation
Like many of you, I am concerned with the current state of US Soccer particularly as it relates to the progress on the field and increasingly fractured nature of its constituency. US Soccer has made great strides, but the systemic problems that have been building over time are taking a serious toll. After sharing some of my ideas on how to move forward with folks around the country, I have been persuaded to run for President of the Federation by many who have already cast their support behind my candidacy. I now ask that you join our movement to make US Soccer better.
Like many of you, I have invested thousands of hours in the sport as an athlete, parent and member of my community out of a love for the game and desire to help soccer in this country grow and improve. I have played soccer at the youth, collegiate and professional levels, coached at the youth and collegiate levels, and managed at the youth and professional levels.
Like many of you, I have also held down a full-time job while continuing to stay involved in soccer. For the last 17 years, I have been a corporate attorney in New York City representing some of the largest companies, domestic and foreign, in high stakes cases and negotiations, and have been an adjunct law professor since 2003. At the same time, I have raised two children with my wife in Ridgewood, NJ, both of whom play the game.
Like many of you, I believe we need change within the Federation. It is time that issues such as the process and transparency by which critical decisions are made, the clarity and effectiveness of our development path for young athletes, the disparate treatment of the US women’s programs, and the prohibitive costs for player participation and coaching education are addressed and resolved through collaborative efforts.
I pledge to work with all of US Soccer’s members, create merit-based committees, and ensure transparency in taking a fresh look at and resolving these and other issues. There is no magic talisman to effect these necessary changes. It will take intelligence, fairness and candor, as well as a deep understanding of the game from all perspectives. It will take diligence, hard work and perseverance. My soccer experiences, on and off the field, as well as my experience as a corporate lawyer and educator have prepared me to serve as President of our Federation.
Like all of you, I pledge to put the good of the game first. Thank you for your support.
WTF? Were you paid to post this James? Seriously? We’re supposed to be impressed by this crap? Since when do candidates running for office in a private organization need to promote themselves on The Ridgewood Blog? Give me a break.
Certainly everyone recalls the infamous lawsuit filed by Mr. Winograd’s spouse. But of course, no mention of it in the puff piece above. Unfucking believable. But, remember P. T. Barnum’s observation – “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

I am extremely alarmed by many of Ms. Winograd’s Facebook posts. The company you keep Mr. Winograd.
If elected, Who will actually call the shots him or his wfie? His qualifications are impressive but if his wife is going to be the influencer for his votes then the voters should look at her track record too.
Isn’t Siobhan Winograd a proponent of having the Community Relations Board become formally involved in the Ridgewood Public Schools’ curriculum development process? Huh? Say what?
since he’s the person vying for office why is it even necessary to see her sorry ass face
It is better to be alone than in bad company Mike.
Beware of the company you keep.
See that you associate with the right type of people.
what a hot mess she is
Beware of anything Siobhan Whiny -grad supports. It usually means she has a hidden agenda and/or protecting a self interest.
What a terrible example of meanness, nastiness, and, of course, cowardice. You should be ashamed of yourselves. James, since your readers seem to want to know how and why this piece was posted, perhaps you should tell them you lifted it from your friend Siobhan’s personal facebook page. You apparently felt it was newsworthy or you just wanted to stir the pot – either way, own it.
you don’t think a local resident running for President of the US Soccer Federation is news? And it was lifted from his campaign page
Yes it is news that he is running. But his wife is a divisive person, and runs around town stirring up potloads of trouble. He clearly knows that his wife is a trouble maker, so he should expect some fallout from this.
