The Ridgewood school district will be adjusting to some big changes this year.
Some of these changes relate to circumstance (the retiring or resigning of employees), some to government mandates and others to district initiatives in the realm of technology or emotional well-being, as well as district goals to decrease spending on energy and out-of-district tuitions for special needs students. Many are a combination of several factors.
Technology at the forefront
The hiring of a technology manager is part of a push to ready RHS for a 1:1 technology initiative planned for the 2014-2015 school year; an attempt to supply each student with a personal electronic device for school use. The district is planning to supply each student with a Chromebook, Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said.
“If you go to the 1:1 initiative, you’re going to have that many more machines hitting your network,” he said. “You’ve got to be sure the [network] can handle it.”
