Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission is already for this year’s Adopt a Sapling Day. If you would like to help us plant saplings, join us at Somerville School this Saturday at 9. Bring your gloves and a shovel. Hope to see you Saturday. Planting is scheduled for Saturday, October 19 between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission is expanding the Adopt a Sapling to the Sommerville School District in 2024. We are looking for homeowners who would like to participate in this pilot program. Participation would include two things:
1. Agreement to have a sapling of about 5 feet planted on the public right of way area in front of your home.
2. Commitment to fill a donut watering bag once a week or twice a week in extreme heat for about two years to keep the sapling watered.
Watering is very important for the survival of newly planted trees. The donut wrapped around the base of the tree is designed to slowly and consistently water the sapling. The donut will be installed with the tree.
Planting is scheduled for Saturday October 19, 2024, between 9 and 12 PM. Prior to the planting day, the village arborist will inspect the site to be sure it is appropriate for tree planting.
If you would like to participate, you need only to sign the agreement below. Any concerns can be directed to the Parks and Shade Tree office at 201-670-5565 or RST@ridgewoodnj.net.
