Ridgewood NJ, at the March 22 Village Council work session, the five council members agreed to move forward with a resolution supporting the Green Amendment which, hopefully, will go to a state-wide vote to change the State Bill of Rights. As Deputy Mayor Perron reported, this amendment would provide citizens of the Garden State with the inalienable right to potable water, clean air, a clean and healthy environment, the preservation of natural and healthy habitats, and the scenic qualities of the historic environment. Perron went on to explain that if the Council moves forward with this, it will give a message to the State that Ridgewood thinks this is a good idea.

Well, of course everyone agrees.
But Councilwoman Reynolds pointed out that this is truly hypocritical in light of the damage that will be done to the air, environment, potable water, natural and healthy habitats, and historic environment with the plans for Schedler. Reynolds was right on the money, of course, as always.
Perron then went on the defense, of course, as always. She said that she did not see that there would be a directive telling the local governments that “thou shalt not place a turf field in a particular area.” (yes, she actually got all biblical) She added that she did not see a law or restriction that says we can’t do whatever we want. So, to be clear, Perron sees nothing hypocritical with signing the resolution and then bulldozing the green space. Green Amendment be damned.
Then Weitz, in a rare moment of participation, interjected that the 2009 purchase of Schedler was absolutely the right call (agreed). And he added that there could have been a strip mall there (agreed). But what was your point Mr. Weitz? Were you saying that because there is no strip mall then it is carte blanche to clear cut trees, add an artificial turf field, pave a huge parking area, install stadium lights to ruin the neighbors’s evenings and the animals’ and birds’ day-night cycles, and destroy all the natural habitats of animals and birds on the property? What kind of convoluted thinking is this?
What a bizarre discussion this was. Thank you Councilwoman Reynolds for being the sole voice of reason and sanity in an increasingly insane council environment.

Every one of them except Reynolds should be recalled.
Just when you thought they couldn’t say anything more asinine than what came out of their mouths at the previous meeting, they surprise you.
What is with Perron anyway? She has turned out to be such a hardened witch.
Not surprisingly, I see that Weitz is somewhat of a buffoon also.
Buffoon is preferable to the others
Were you expecting something else, don’t you realize it’s done. The town is done. It has flipped over. the great village is no more, we used to be the leaders around here no more .they can’t even follow a great town because they had their heads up their ass. This is been going on for a long time. The village has gone to an area that they’re all lost with direction. It happened four years ago and started. They lost so much experience. And most of the newbies have no idea what to do in the rest of them are just buying time see ya. it shows it’s embarrassing and amazing. And all the top management is all burnt out. It shows dramatically on their face we see it. Call the county in they are willing to take over.
You are 100% correct.
I called it over a decade ago.
Can we please recall these four idiots!
They only care about police fire, EMS, parks, and recreation, and everything else down the drain
This is so sad. What is the matter with these people?
100% VC Perron is ALWAYS defensive when challenged, even when what she is saying makes zero sense. When the only smart VC member raise the point that EVERYONE has a right to clean air and clean water and that this directly contradicted what was going on with plans for Schedler regarding health issues that could be SERIOUS or DEADLY, she started stating that there were cases regarding riparian rights or where there is fracking…how can you compare these things to what is going on in Ridgewood. At the end she went so far as to say that she saw no law stating “she did not see a directive that says thou shall not put a turf field of a particular size” . This is truly one of the dumbest comments I have ever heard in my life, but I guess if you are a Legal Eagle, then it would make sense. When the topic kept shifting to comparisons in STARK contrast to how Ridgewood behaves, Mayor Vagianos wanted to redirect attention to the Green Amendment which IS EXACTLY WHAT IS BEING PLANNED FOR SCHEDLER!!!
Uh oh, Mister CAPS is back.
Uh oh, Miss CAPS still doesn’t understand she’s the poster child for IRONY.
VC member Winograd who heads up the Shade Tree Commission which is responsible for the Village’s tree beautification within the Village pointed out that yes, more tress are planned to be cut down to create a park and ball field that is being designed by the Village Engineer, so my question would be, why didn’t they actually have an actual clear plan and design before they hired Downes Tree Service to cut them down in the first place. This sounds like the tail wagging the dog and this is definitely becoming a dog with fleas! Also, a berm was created with trees and a water irrigation system in before asking SHPO for permission. Is that how we handle the business of Ridgewood. Doesn’t seem like the legal path we should be taking. Is it easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?
Broadway had a show called “The Play Where Everything Goes Wrong” well this is the Village where everything goes wrong! It is truly a comedy of errors but unlike a play, what is worse is that it affects people’s lives.
more of a Tragedy than a Comedy…
As stated by a number of individuals in public comments, there are numerous wells that are used by residents for their drinking water and other water usages for their families, some of whom have young children. How does the Green Amendment apply to these people in the Schedler area who also have “an inalienable right” to the same rights that others will enjoy?
Pam is not green conscious, but she sure is RED in the face when she gets angry. Which is increasingly often.
Time to make more popcorn
Town looks like Hackensack.
Phonies. All four of them are phonies. Whatever moron decided to support this green amendment in the middle of doing exactly the opposite of the spirit of the amendment at the Schedler property should not be allowed to place items on future agendas.
This was probably Pam the scam. That idiot would support anything with “green” in the title. Unfortunately for her and her three stupid buddies up there, none of them has the ability to think politically about anything. ( and I’m not saying that thinking politically is a good way to carry yourself) But seriously, if you’re trying to overturn the state historic status of a property and trying to clear cut seven acres of trees to totally expose a neighborhood to all the fumes and pollution of Rt 17 and replace grass and ground cover with artificial turf, then maybe you should quietly let this one go. I mean, not one of the four thought this looks insanely hypocritical. Amazing.
And it’s not like Ridgewood’s support is critical to the state passage of said green amendment.
This looks so hypocritical. I just can’t understand how they thought this would be a good idea. I’m going to crack open another tube of glue and try to figure this all out.
Perron looks deranged
The town fleet garage site is filthy, who is in charge of that area. My o my . Clean it up. Pick up the trash.
I want a strip mall at Schedler, that would create some tax revenue
Insanely hypocritical. I agree.
It would be interesting to look back to see what their (Winograd, Perron and Vagiano) stance was on Graydon pool when we all debated about leveling that and building a pool complex.
