Ridgewood NJ, at last nights council meeting , the council once again revisited Ridgewood Waters push for the Water Smart software . The crux of the debate seemed to be weather the software could pay for itself with cost savings . Ridgewood Water has some very aggressive water savings goals . Ridgewood water stated the need to save 50,000,000 gallons of water per year.

Some critics of the water company suggest massive water saving in the system will be necessary with all the new development in Ridgewood and the other towns Ridgewood Water services in order to avoid ,”no flush Fridays” .

During the meeting much of the focus  was on the user interface .  The Water Smart software would offer users community comparisons as well as personal comparisons . One of the major advantages would be localized leaks would be more quickly identified .

Ridgewood Water seems to be looking for a more interactive consumer management.Resident Saurabh Dani voiced concerns over integration of multiple software systems .

Nothing  presented last night addressed  the elephant in the room ; the simply fact there is not enough water capacity for the coming high density development .

  1. A total was of money. We do not need this and do not want it. The Council should be ashamed of themselves for revisiting this. The vote was NO and it should stick.

  2. This initiative is being pushed hard enough to the point that I’m now getting suspicious someone will be getting a big kickback if the sale goes through.

  3. What in their professional background qualifies these five to be the board of directors of a multi-million dollar, multi-jurisdictional water utility? The most insane thing (and there’s a lot of competition for the title) this village does is try to manage a water utility. The NA HQ for one of the largest water companies in the world is a few miles from here. I’m sure we could work out a fair selling price. With all due respect, there’s not a business person on the dais with the chops to effectively, efficiently manage this utility. We might as well put a reality TV star in charge. Stop the insanity!

  4. 8.58, 100% agree with you.

  5. High Density housing will not consume much water at all. In fact, each unit will have water efficient fixtures and appliances and they will not be watering lawns and filling pools.

There is no elephant in the room, just a bogeyman of those who oppose development at any cost.

    1. sorry Ridgewood water admitted it at a previous Village Council Meeting

  6. 11.00. Right. In fact developers will install some new cool technology that will recycle the same water over and over for these buildings. They’re also looking to install containers that will collect rain water and distribute throughout the village. Awesome days are coming. Progress is great.

  7. The next thing you know, a reality television star will occupy the White House.
