Ridgewood NJ, during a question and answer at last nights Village council meeting, Councilmen Ramone Hache asked Richard Calbi of Ridgewood Water if it would be feasible to stem contaminates before they get into the water supply? Calbi answered that the best alternative to lower the Village’s consumption of Water. Saying Ridgewood Water’s goal is to get people to use less water outside lessening the need for the amount of water and the amount of water that needs to be treated .

Councilwomen Bernie Walsh followed up asking the obvious question ,what wells will the four new high density multi family developments draw from, what’s going to be the challenge? Richard Calbi claims New Jersey state calculations show Ridgewood with surplus water but the reality is far different during peak demand. Calbi then admitted there is going to be new demand with the developments but hedged that there was already a demand on those sites in the past , Calbi than made an astonishing assessment that in each development there would be an increase in consumption due to the amount of dwelling going in .

Mayor Knudsen jumped in and asked for clarification of the paper number and the real number, and Richard Calbi reiterated that at peak times during the summer Ridgewood Water simple does not have the capacity. Thus the need for water restrictions.

Was not the Village previously told that the new high density developments would lead to NO INCREASE IN WATER CONSUMPTION ? Can no flush Friday be far behind ?

  1. Love it when the blog breaks a big story like “More people in town will require more water.” Although it’s a better water story that the most self-aggrandizing water bill in history.

  2. Time to shower with a friend.

  3. Wait. What? Who would have thought that more people in town means more water will be consumed!? In the words of queen Pelosi “we won’t know how much water will be used until we finish building so let’s build first so we can find out”.
Expect that pretty soon lawn irrigation be considered illegal. I am planning of buying a camel so I can bring water from the brook. This is paradise. Before I moved in I knew Ridgewood was great but never expected this type of entertainment.

  4. The developers have also “done studies” that showed there will be a reduction in traffic in the CBD and that there will be no additional children entering the school system so telling us that these new high rises will consume no water is consistent with their previous assertions.

  5. This is so obvious why is the council surprised?? This along with over crowded schools shoukd have been a huge reason to have fought these developers from the start

    1. once again if you voted for Aronsohn & Co you get what you voted for

    2. the council was surprised because during the hearing for high density housing all the “experts”(including Ridgewood Water) claimed the high density housing would not use water, create parking issues , or add kids to schools or cause traffic

  6. And Ridgewood water admits this??? This should have been obvious not an admittance

    1. Previously the Village was told by the Village Planner, Ridgewood Water , Aronsohn and Co , that the high density units would not use water, add to the parking problem or create any traffic issues

  7. 3:22 attach Hose spray down lemming citizenry …they think we are asses ..vote early. Vote often

    CHANGE

  8. Who cares about minor things like water and traffic when we will have rainbow flags flying all over the village YOU BIGOT!

  9. I would love them to build the Taj Mahal

  10. Well while we are on the subject why did the X governor McGreevy resign . He was doing a great job. Did he resign because he was gay if so that’s ridiculous. If the person can do the job that’s what it’s about right.

  11. All these problems that the Village has been denying would occur are almost here. The fact that the official people in Ridgewood would constantly parrot the builders quotes when it was obvious to even a child that all these additions would include a massive influx in needs for all our services. As someone stated “What did they get out of it for lying so freely?” Paul got his first state political appointment which he hopes will lead to bigger and better things. Our present Mayor changed to becoming a real estate agent and all these new developments will benefit him. What was gained by the others happily rushing into this? Will they all be gone when reality sets in? They all HAD to know what would be the reality of all this development. What did they gain by their massive pretend ignorance?

  12. The VC relies on the experts and that would be the Village Planner and Engineer – hmmm are they still around?
