Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood blog recently published photos of Ridgewood Water Lead Service Line Removal Program in action.

In a Facebook post Ridgewood Water informed a resident that the replacement of the customer portion of an existing Lead Service Line (LSL) is the responsibility of the individual homeowner.

“We have worked closely with each of the 4 town’s leadership in Ridgewood Water’s service area, and it was decided that the cost of the replacement of the customer portion of an existing Lead Service Line (LSL) should be on the responsibility of the individual homeowner. We are finalizing the details on a replacement program, so those with a LSL on the customer side of the curb box will be receiving information on our Replacement Program in the next few months. Essentially it is ultimately the homeowner’s responsibility for the homeowner’s side of the service line. We are in the process of developing a program that an individual customer can opt-in or opt-out of, allowing a resident to utilize our borrowing power and paying the loan back through a special tax assessment on each individual residence. Though, those that opt-out should only do so to seek avenues to replace their portion of the LSL through a private contractor.”

  1. Logical and fair that the town owns to the shut off at the curb
HOWEVER, the same needs to apply to the sewer, but the town ‘conveniently’ makes the homeowner responsible to the main UNDER the street, where the roots intrude and the homeowner gets stuck with a huge tab to repair.

  2. My attorney and I feel otherwise. You’ll hear from us shortly. I suggest that you govern yourselves accordingly.

  3. I have the pipe insurance does it cover lead pipe removal?
