The Village has officially announced that it is on track to reach full compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards four years ahead of the 2031 deadline. This proactive move ensures that residents will have access to water that doesn’t just meet federal requirements—it exceeds them.

The Road to Undetectable: 2026 and Beyond

With the recent activation of the East Ridgewood PFAS Treatment Facility, the project has reached its halfway point. Currently, six of the twelve planned facilities are fully operational and filtering water for the community.

Here is the timeline for the remaining rollout:

  • By End of 2026: 11 of the 12 facilities will be online.

  • The Result: Regulated PFAS compounds will drop to undetectable levels, going even further than the EPA’s strict limit of 4 parts per trillion.

  • April 2027: The final facility is scheduled for completion, marking the end of this comprehensive safety initiative.

A $150 Million Investment in Public Health

This systemwide overhaul represents a $150 million investment in the long-term health and safety of our residents. By prioritizing infrastructure now, Ridgewood Water is bypassing the 2031 federal “grace period” and delivering premium water quality almost half a decade early.

“Once complete, this project will bring Ridgewood Water into full compliance nearly half a decade before the national mandate, setting a gold standard for water utilities in New Jersey and beyond.”

Our question is simple , sounds great but can you drink the water?

  1. Wonderful news.

Does this mean they will stop charging the outrageous $37.07/quarter “PFAS Quarterly Charge” on my bill? Probably not, as they will claim they need to charge it until the project is “paid off.” Fair enough.

It’s just that we heard that excuse for the George Washington Bridge, the Turnpike, the Parkway, and other projects that generate loads of addictive easy money. Government gets hooked on it and can’t let it go.

  2. We all hope the water is going to taste better,, what’s amazing is that how much? Of an improvement has been made in the water company, and there’s so many new employees. And how come so many things wanted into this repair for a long time. Can’t understand that the water company makes a lot of money. Now you think about this, they invested $150 million into the system, can you imagine what the company is worth? It’s definitely over 200 million. And that’s one question nobody would like to answer, they keep on running away from that question. And that is what is the water company worth in dollars. Can you imagine down the road? I can surely see them selling it.

  4. Well, how about the village come clean regarding the value of the water utility company., Why is it such a secret women requesting this for years and no one can offer the taxpayers the answer regarding the value of the company.

  5. Looks like a lot of maintenance, does the water utility have enough for staff?

  6. The utility would probably be valued between $122 to $245 million based on the Allendale sale of its municipal water utility in 2021. They got $18 million. Typically it is common practice to estimate the value of a public utility by using a multiple of its customer base. Ridgewood Water has about 61,000 customers. Some value would be assigned per customer between $2,000 to $4,000, or it would use a multiple of earnings between X5 to X10. Ridgewood Water brought in about $25 million last year. So there you go.
But I wouldn’t get too excited about selling the $250 million water utility. If the utility was sold all of the debt would have to be paid back before the council could waste any proceeds from the sale on fields. So if it was sold residents would see no benefit, and water rates would go up and be paid to a private company. Verses being paid to the municipality.

  8. 10 years of drinking contaminated water and endless promises by RC it will be fixed
There is nothing to celebrate until they walk the talk and we pass NJDEP standards.

  9. Next, let’s talk about stipends. The village taxpayers were like a list of employees that are receiving paid stipends.
1, who is receiving paint stipends
2, why are they receiving paid stipend
3, are they authorized to be receiving paid stipend, and who authorized it. Who signed off on it?
4, how much are they receiving for that stipend?
5, and how long will they be receiving these paid stipend.
