Ridgewood NJ, attached is a letter from WSP USA to Ridgewood Water (WSP seems to be their Licensed Site Remediation Professional) regarding the spoil pile located at 579 Prospect Street in Glen Rock, NJ, dated December 2, 2020.

WSP’s last paragraph in the attached letter: “Due to the elevated concentrations of the PAH compounds above their respective RDCSRS/NRDCSRS, the material comprising the water main break spoils pile cannot be considered for use as clean fill at an off-site location. Given the widespread occurrence of these exceedances within the Pile, it is likely not feasible to separate out “cleaner” sections for further evaluation. As such, it is recommended that Ridgewood Water consider transporting this material for disposal at an appropriate off-site facility.”
According to an August 2024 report from another Licensed Site Remediation Professional, the soil from this “spoil pile” failed contamination tests twice <once in 2016 and again in 2021>. Does this mean it sat contaminated for five years?
With yet another document advising against its use, why was the contaminated soil at a spoil pile allowed to be used at Schedler, despite clear documentation that it exceeded safety standards?
And why wasn’t this letter included in an August 2024 report or submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection or in the Village’s December 2023 response?

  1. Lawsuits by residents living near the West Saddle River Road Superfund Site will cost taxpayers millions.

    1. Please stop throwing the word “Superfund” around for drama. It is not, and will not ever be a Superfund site. Suggest you do a little bit of reading up on CERCLA. SMH.

    1. We’re too RICH and STUPID to hold anyone accountable…

  3. That’s because it was used and mixed with other material to get rid of it to save money. This has been going on for years nothing new.

    1. Please tell us more. Where can we find the smoking gun?

  4. Again, the Village Manager will do nothing and cover up for staff.

  5. CRIMINAL!

  6. You know what’s so amazing is that the village got caught with mishandling the soil Period . at this point in time they can’t get out of it. It’s either they were just not properly informed, not properly doing test, maybe they knew it was wrong, and they did it to save money. or just stupid, or all of above. but the bottom line is as today. They probably going to have to treat the soil, remove the soil, hire a hazardous contractor to remove it. We down now we haven’t seen what the DP suggest how to handle it. But and we do mean, but , How is the Village going to handle the situation regarding employees and neighbors to see if they were contaminated. None of us know what’s going to happen down the road . Sometimes symptoms just don’t start overnight so the village will be responsible for the health and well-being of residents And employees past and current. this needs to be addressed by the village manager mayor, council health department, the company that the village hired to do the inspection, the DEP, maybe other health departments in the county or state. Whichever but something must be done. The village must take responsibility and they are not again they’re trying to sweep this under the carpet like they usually do in the past. But this time forget about the cat out of the bag and the icing on the cake. This has passed that everyone knows so the village should take the opportunity to do the right thing I’m sure , the mayor and council and manager are talking to the village attorney on this one, or they hired someone. Because if you think it’s going to cost a few million to remove the soil, can you imagine if someone’s contaminated just maybe the contamination caused other problems in employees if you read the contamination in the soil, it causes multiple things throughout your body , very serious

  7. The smoking gun, well it all starts with the ex Village manager and engineering, they knew what was going on. They were in charge. It started in 2019. You can’t blame the mayor council because they’re not involved with day-to-day operations or are they. You see what’s going on in New York City? How the top is getting in trouble and quite a few are resigning, well that’s should happened Here in the village. We find the quite funny one resident bring it up to the mayor and counsel at a meeting verbally on camera recorded about the health and well-being of and neighbors of these locations and boy they get tight lipped Real fast. I guess attorneys telling them to do that with the head down they roll their eyes. They must be saying oh boy.

  8. First of all, what is a spoil pile? Sounds disgusting and unsafe. Is this somewhere out in the open or ticked away in Rich Calbis hiding spot for convenient fiteitmre dumping

  9. That guy is not playing with a full deck.
