Ridgewood NJ, Commuters and residents in the Ridgewood area should prepare for significant travel adjustments. Ridgewood Water, in partnership with Scafar Contracting, Inc., is officially kicking off construction on the highly anticipated Eastside PFAS Treatment Facility.
This major infrastructure project will take place near State Highway 17 and E. Saddle River Road, and will include the installation of associated Raw Water Mains along several key local roadways.
To allow crews to safely begin excavation and utility work, Van Emburgh Avenue is closed to through traffic, marks the official start of the project’s local traffic impacts.
Impacted Areas & Construction Zone
If your daily commute takes you through the eastern side of the village or neighboring areas, expect delays and active work zones along the following corridors:
-
Van Emburgh Avenue (Initial full closure point)
-
E. Saddle River Road
-
E. Glen Avenue
-
Salem Lane
Local authorities have established official detour routes to help motorists navigate around the active construction zones. Drivers are strongly urged to review the neighborhood detour maps, plan for extra travel time, and exercise caution when driving near work crews.
Why This Infrastructure Matters: Clean Water Goals
While the temporary road closures will impact local traffic patterns, the project marks a critical milestone for regional environmental health. The construction of the Eastside PFAS Treatment Facility is part of an ongoing, proactive effort by Ridgewood Water to upgrade local water treatment systems. Once operational, the facility will utilize state-of-the-art filtration to ensure compliance with stringent water safety standards and protect the community’s drinking water supply.
An official notification letter has been distributed to residents living in the immediate vicinity of the project site detailing specific neighborhood access guidelines.
