ROCHELLE PARK, NJ — A dramatic single-vehicle rollover accident on Route 17 Southbound sent one person to the hospital and created a massive traffic nightmare for North Jersey commuters on Monday afternoon, March 23.
The crash, which occurred between Passaic Street and Prospect Street, left a utility pole sheared at its base and triggered miles of backups in both directions as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Driver Escapes Overturned Ford Focus
The incident involved a silver 2-door Ford Focus that flipped onto its roof after striking a utility pole with enough force to snap the structure. Despite the severity of the impact, Rochelle Park Police reported that the driver was able to self-extricate from the wreckage.
When first responders arrived, the driver was conscious and alert. Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) basic and advanced life support teams treated the individual on-site before transporting them to the HUMC main campus for further evaluation.
