Ridgewood NJ, in a video announcement on Thursday, Senator “Gold Bar” Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) revealed his intention to explore the possibility of running as an independent candidate for his seat, despite facing pressure from within his own party to resign over his indictments.

Menendez, who has been accused of accepting bribes and acting as an agent for the Egyptian government, maintained his innocence against these charges. However, he expressed concern that the accusations could hinder his ability to engage in meaningful political dialogue and debate with his opponents, who have already made the allegations a focal point of their campaigns.

“As a result,” Menendez stated, “I have decided not to file for the Democratic primary this June. I remain hopeful that my exoneration will occur this summer, allowing me to pursue my candidacy as an independent Democrat in the general election.”

Menendez’s announcement comes just before the filing deadline in New Jersey. The senator has been under pressure not to seek reelection following multiple indictments. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to act as a foreign agent for Egypt and obstruction of justice. Additionally, his wife has been implicated in the scandal, and a businessman has admitted to attempting to bribe the senator and his wife for political gain.

Despite the allegations, Menendez highlighted his legislative achievements in his announcement video, acknowledging the disappointment some constituents may feel towards him. He urged the public to reserve judgment until justice is served.

Menendez would need to gather a minimum of 800 signatures by June 4 to launch an independent bid. However, uncertainties remain regarding his political future amidst his ongoing prosecution. A recent Monmouth University poll indicated that 63 percent of adults in New Jersey believe he should step down.

  1. Good riddance !

  2. Mr. Menendez, please don’t run again. Same goes for George Santos of NY.

  3. The ego on this guy is just incredible. No one wants you. No one believes you anymore. Yes, there have been politicians who have lied (allegedly). Just look at our own municipality. Lies, lies and more lies. But they are fully transparent in their lies, right? Go away. We need someone who will represent.

    1. The stupid voters always elect Democrats who don’t give a shit about NJ
They go to DC, vote with Schumer and Dems 100 percent of the time.
I cannot name one thing Menendez and Booker have done for NJ
Dems know NJ is a ‘safe seat’ so no matter what they do, they get elected
