Ridgewood NJ, where’s a cop when you need one? Seemingly never stationed outside of the Ridgewood Starbucks drive-through on Franklin Ave, where drivers routinely cause near misses by making prohibited left turns into and out of the facility’s drive-through lane. A few years back, orange & white striped traffic stanchions prevented those unlawful left turn turns from happening. Why were they removed?
The Ridgewood Blog has covered this issue in the past, yet violations of the law seem to continue to take place daily:

Put a cruiser there…or have Whistleblower take photos of violators.
There is almost zero traffic enforcement in Ridgewood. Every once in a while, I see a patrol car at the old Pease Library but that is not an area where you can speed, so not sure the point of sitting there. Would be nice for police to be present more, pulling people over for talking on cell, speeding near schools during drop off/pick up times and just people generally driving like A-holes. Wonder why this happens in other towns (Waldwick, Wyckoff, Glen Rock) and not here?
As a high schooler in Ridgewood I was pulled over for going 26 in a 25. I was also targeted for having Grateful Dead stickers on my car.
Are you sure you weren’t targeted because of your stupid broccoli hair cut?
Cops won’t enforce the law.
Ridgewood residents are selfish and have no moral compass.
Why should Ridgewood residents act any differently from Illegal aliens who are allowed to ignore the law (and get rewarded for doing so)?
Why should Ridgewood residents act any differently from inner-city shoplifters who are allowed to ignore the law (and get rewarded for doing so)?
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Relax. They’re just moms and dads trying to rush and go on with their day, not white collar criminals trying to siphon all your money
here fixed if fer ya…
They’re just selfish moms and dads who are above petty things like follow rules and regulations, not common peons who have to obey the law.
Reaching for a comparison and failing.
truth hurts for the Ridgewood privileged…
Should be an easy ticket. More revenue for the Village.
What else is now that’s been going on for years?
The cops are busy ticketing shoppers in the downtown area!
So what? They’re not above the law. Tucker them and all of the illegally parked Uber eats people. You’d make a killing.
Those “NO LEFT TURN” signs are for the little people.
Yes they do. Have seen it numerous times
Let’s not mention the overnight parking. it’s a free for all. No consequences.
Ain’t that the truth!
Well now that Ben & Jerry’s is closing why not open up a new Starbucks in it’s place!
One on each side of the road.
Do you have any other problems you need me to solve…?
Ben and Jerry’s is closing???
No.
Unilever is selling / spinning off Ben and Jerrys and cutting 7500 jobs.
The “new” Ben and Jerrys may or may not close stores which may or may not include the Ridgewood store.
Same thing happens daily at Mavis Tire.
Ben and Jerry’s is closing?
Ben and Jerry’s is closing ?!?
Entitled Ridgewood items with their half-caf-mocha-skim milk-honey-extra froth lattes
Quote of the day !!
Crackdown on the illegal parking on N. Irving by Stevens Field.
Drivers exiting Starbucks do not stop and have the right of way. Pedestrians and vehicles on Franklin must yield.
And the constant blocking of traffic into East Coast Burger that ties up traffic on Franklin. Drivers do not pay attention to the painted lines and signs.
Ohh well
Go ahead and blame the drivers, but don’t forget to blame the short-sighted boards and councils that allowed the burger and coffee places to open in that area. It was a given from day one that people would turn the wrong way and block traffic–at the best of times. People have literally died at that intersection.
Oh, yeah, the drivers are definitely the least liable here. I would even take it one step further and blame the original village planners for incorporating Ridgewood exactly here. For starters, it’s very windy …
1- Franklin Ave was repaved/restriped as if it was 1970 with virtually nothing done to improve safety for pedestrians walking to the train station, or to control the speed/behavior of cars because it is a county road and Bergen County and their engineering department don’t believe in pedestrian safety.
2-The RPD is a “Service Department” as opposed to an “Enforcement Department”. If your dog is lost they are great but not so much in the way of traffic enforcement. A now retired officer told me that when he was hired, the then chief brought him into his office and said. “we have a good thing going here in Ridgewood. Don’t get the residents angry by giving tickets if you don’t have to.” I don’t blame the individual officers as they just follow what their supervisors tell them but it seems that since the department always promotes from within that the culture of the RPD remains the same.
“We have a good thing going here” and “I was just following orders” … the beginnings of some famous last words.
So ridiculous even having a drive thru Starbucks. Just cause we are lucky enough for now living in our village, many of us just make coffee at home.
Ridgewood is a village? Lol. Not anymore it’s not
