Trenton NJ, A Senate committee today endorsed a series of bills that will produce savings and efficiencies for county and municipal government as part of a broader effort to address the mounting fiscal problems in New Jersey.
The nine bills, approved by the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee, are part of the “Path to Progress” report developed by the 25-member Economic and Fiscal Policy Workgroup.
The bipartisan Workgroup issued its report and recommendations in August of 2018, which included a category for “County & Municipal Government Reform and Shared Services.”

Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that the licensed operator of the South River Water Department, the public drinking water system for South River Borough in Middlesex County, was arrested today and charged with submitting false water samples and records to a lab that tests such samples for coliform bacteria for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
Robert Baker, 56, of Mine Hill, N.J., was arrested early this morning and charged with a violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act, a third-degree crime. He was charged in an investigation by the Division of Criminal Justice Specialized Crimes Bureau, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the South River Police Department.

Hackensack NJ, Former Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino resigned amidst controversy in September, triggering a special election last November to fill the three-year position. Ridgewood NJ, on Monday, June 3 Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 were able to have our 28th annual charity golf outing at River Vale Country Club , Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 couldn’t do it without our gracious participants and sponsors! This year we were able to raise money for Mallory‘s Army which is a great charity turned out of a very sad situation in New Jersey. The firefighters thank once again to all that were involved and can’t wait for the 29th next year!
Trenton NJ, At a press conference yesterday, Governor Murphy defended members of his staff for their handling of sexual assault allegations against Al Alvarez. The protection of his aides comes in executive defiance of the findings of a report released earlier in the day by a bipartisan panel of state legislators.
Governor Murphy’s exact quote was, “I believe that the team in my office did what they believed was the right thing, and I stand behind them. That has been the case and will continue to be the case.”
Glen Rock NJ, in preparation for the County of Bergen to pave Rock Road and Maple Avenue this summer, the County ADA ramp and curb cuts contractor will be working along Rock Road and Maple Avenue beginning on Tuesday May 28th and is scheduled to work through July 31st . Work hours will be from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The contractor will be starting on Rock Road, from Lincoln Avenue, and will proceed to work on one side of the road at a time. Please be aware of this construction and plan accordingly. This project, and the paving of Rock Road and Maple Avenue will be funded by the County of Bergen.
Twp of Washington NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, man was arrested and charged today with distributing images of child sexual abuse, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Jeffrey Laino, 37, of Washington Township, New Jersey, was arrested at his home. He is charged by complaint with one count of distributing child pornography. Laino made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor today in Newark federal court.
