TRENTON NJ, More virtue signaling from the Murphy Administration , Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Catherine R. McCabe announced today that the State has joined a motion in federal court seeking to block drilling-related seismic testing activity and fight to prevent offshore drilling in New Jersey .

Where exactly was the NJDEP during the 14 months that the Toll Brothers owned Apple Ridge site leached arsenic into Pleasant Brook and Saddle River ? We failed to notice one press release from the NJ Attorney General and the NJDEP only responded after the run off from the site was featured on CBS News and NorthJersey.com .

Next time someone want to raise your tax to save the environment remind them of Apple Ridge and the destruction of Bergen County water ways.

Governors Budget Address No Relief for the Middle Class

Trenton NJ, State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) offered the following appraisal of Governor Phil Murphy’s 2020 budget address:

“Governor Murphy is trying to manage the budget with phantom numbers. This isn’t monopoly money. Governor: get your hands out of our pockets. Taxpayers have had enough and state spending is out of control.

“New Jersey has the worst business climate and the highest property taxes in the nation and these new taxes will push even more job creators out of state. Last year, Governor Murphy’s proposed tax hikes were so egregious, that even his fellow Democrats couldn’t stomach them. Nothing has changed. Don’t be surprised if the government shuts down.

Trenton NJ, GOP Chairman Steinhardt’s Statement on the Murphy Budget Address : Winston Churchill said it best. “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” When politicians say they will raise taxes on the wealthy, they always end up raising taxes on the middle and working classes, too.

Just last year, Phil Murphy and the Democrats set the bar for their Success Tax at $5M in income. Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? But, one year later, these same Democrats redefine success as any family making more than $1M a year. Still sounds like a lot, I know. But, that’s an 80% drop from last year, and if the Democrats keep feeding and growing State government, you’re next.

Spoofing is the deliberate falsifying of information transmitted to a caller ID display to disguise an identity.

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean and members of the Senate Republican caucus announced the “Every Child Counts” school funding reform plan at a State House press conference today.

The package of legislation is designed to boost State support for special education, increase equity and accuracy of school aid allocations, and eliminate opportunities for school districts and municipalities to game the funding formula.

Murphy Budget Raids Environmental Settlements

Trenton NJ, The proposed FY2020 budget is coming out on Tuesday. Governor Murphy’s budget FY2019, DEP saw a decrease in overall budget while operations went up slightly. The Clean Energy Fund was also raided by $160 million from its previous budget year. NRD money from the Exxon and Volkswagen Settlement were also used for the general budget, however Murphy cannot use NRD money to balance the FY 2020 budget.

“Last year’s budget was balanced on the backs of the environment, we concerned about this year’s proposed budget will do the same. FY2020 is coming out and there may be cuts or money grabbed to plug budget holes. Last year the Murphy Administration took close to $500 million from environmental programs to balance the budget. This year, the Murphy Administration have already committed to taking $140 million form the Clean Energy Fund and given the problems, it could mean more. Now since Murphy cannot grab NRD money anymore, DEP’s budget may be targeted along with other environmental monies,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club.

Ridgewood NJ, Congressmen Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05) and Peter King (NY-02) announced their new bill to demand an economic estimate and contingency plan for the “Doomsday” scenario where one of the two North River Tunnels must be shut down beneath the Hudson River.

The North River Tunnels carry 200,000 travelers daily and are crumbling after damage from over 100 years of use and flooding during Superstorm Sandy. On Tuesday, the Regional Plan Association released “A Preventable Crisis,” a report outlining the catastrophic economic consequences of a tunnel being shut down.

Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood reminds you that due to inclement weather certain procedures should be followed .

REMINDERS ABOUT GARBAGE PICKUP DURING SNOW EVENTS

Our sanitation and recycling employees will be picking up garbage and recycling, as long as the road conditions permit them to do so. All garbage and recycling containers must be placed at the end of your driveways, and not in the street. The Village will resume rear yard garbage collection as quickly as possible after the snowstorm, but please continue to place your garbage cans at the end of your driveway, until you have a clear path to them. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our Village employees safe.

REMINDERS ABOUT SNOW REMOVAL

All sidewalks in residential districts must be cleared within 24 hours of the snow falling. Please do not place snow into the street; instead, place it back onto your own property. In addition, if you have a fire hydrant on your property, please clear it of any snow accumulation.

POWER OUTAGES

Due to icy conditions, there may be power outages. Please stay away from downed wires. Plan ahead and know where your flashlights are located. If you experience a power outage, please do not call the Police Department unless there is an emergency. Instead, please call PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734.

NJ TRANSIT ANNOUNCES FULL, SYSTEMWIDE CROSS-HONORING MARCH 4TH AHEAD OF WINTER STORM

Ridgewood NJ, As another blast of winter is forecasted for the state later today into Monday morning, NJ TRANSIT anticipates regular weekend service for the remainder of the day Sunday and regular weekday service for Monday, March 4^th on its rail, bus and light rail, as long as weather conditions permit safe operation. Access link paratransit service will be operating with service adjustments due to the weather. Parts of New Jersey are forecasted to experience heavy snow and icy roadway conditions with rapid freezing of wet surfaces. The possibility of strong, gusty winds could impact the overhead wires on rail and light rail service.

Systemwide Cross-Honoring in Effect on March 4^th: To give customers additional travel options during the expected winter weather conditions, NJ TRANSIT will offer full systemwide cross-honoring for the entire service day on Monday, March 4, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, light rail or bus—including private bus carriers.

Ridgewood NJ, In preparation for winter weather conditions, Governor Phil Murphy has declared a State of Emergency throughout New Jersey starting at 3:00 PM today so that state resources can be deployed as needed.

Today’s weather will turn cloudy, with rain expected by early this evening, which will quickly turn to snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected from 9:00 p.m. Sunday to 4:00 a.m. Monday, with possible accumulations of five to eight inches. Please stay off of the roads to allow our crews to do their snowplowing work.

New Jersey Voters Get What they wanted Higher Taxes and a Less Prosperous State

Ridgewood NJ, Tax revenues are up 2.9% over prior year , but a 7.2% increase is needed to fund existing and new spending programs. Sales tax and Corporate Business Tax grew above projections (corporate tax revenues 47% higher than prior year).
So the target for tax increases will again be the Income Tax. Last year, the state passed a multi-millionaires tax, so that card has already been played.

At the current growth rate as detailed in that legislative services report, and not accounting for higher revenues in the second half of the fiscal year, the state would fall about $5 billion short of the $33.5 billion in major revenues certified by the governor. The Treasury Department declined to say what its current projection for the end of the year is, but the ratings agency S&P Global Ratings said it calculates a $740 million shortfall if the trend continues.

New Milford Police Department issue Social Security Scam Warning

New Milford NJ , the New Milford Police Department issued the following statement :

All residents, be advised numerous residents throughout town have received phones calls from 866-404-5249 stating they are from the Social Security Administration asking for Social Security Numbers and their SSN’s have been compromised. The callers will then hang up after attempting to gain information and then the victim will receive a phone call from a caller ID from 201-261-1400 which is the main phone line from New Milford Police claiming to be a New Milford Police Officer. Please be aware, these phone calls are a scam and NO New Milford Police Officer will ever call anyone requesting any information from the Social Security Administration. Please hang up immediately and do NOT give any information over the phone. Thank for for your Cooperation.

Reader says , “RHS’s acceptance is better than those schools advertise as the national rate”

James, the person that keeps posting that our schools can’t produce statistically significant numbers of students gaining acceptance to the best colleges and universities and other unsupported bullS**T is “fake news”. Please have this CNN employee find some proof or evidence as we have asked for in the past.

And for the 4 generations of my family that have been here, nobody sees it as a decline over the decades either. He or she is free to hate the people running the schools but the facts show our kids perform great and are accepted to great schools (regardless of opinions about people teaching and running the schools). I previously also spot checked the acceptance rates at the Ivy’s (since he or she has also mentioned them frequently) and RHS’s acceptance is better than those schools advertise as the national rate. Which is pretty impressive given one would expect our kids to be up against a negative bias as the Ivies strive for both geographic and racial of diversity.
On top of all of that; if ranked against other public schools, (excluding the ones that are by acceptance such as Bergen Acad), RHS is top 10. Granted the goal is to be #1 but it is fake news to say it is declining or not getting kids into competitive schools at acceptable rates. This person must also be the the one that thinks downtown Ridgewood is lined with illicit massage parlors and gang members dealing drugs while patrolling with pit bulls. While it is humorous to the rest of us that live here and know the truth, but it is also harmful for us all to have such untruths posted as headlines. IF they produce anything other than some anecdotal BS it would be helpful to see it. Otherwise, it is just hurting all of us by making Ridgewood sound like Paterson. Which it is not. Is this person some kind of real estate developer trying to drive property values down so they can buy?
