The event includes a short program based on the theme of each year’s parade and a traditional flag raising. Throughout the history of the celebration the parade and firework portions have on occasion been forgone due to funding or security concerns however the flag raising has occurred without interruption since the start of the committee in 1910. This year join your fellow patriots in the longest continually celebrated tradition in the history of The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ridgewood NJ, This Fourth of July holiday, Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) urges everyone to celebrate safely by planning ahead and designating a non-drinking driver if plans include alcohol. Backyard barbecues, fireworks displays and other festivities surrounding the Fourth of July holiday often include drinking, making it one of the deadliest holidays of the year.
Last year, from 6 p.m.July 1 to 5:59 a.m.July 5, 188 Americans were killed in crashes involving drunk drivers. During that timeframe, drunk driving deaths accounted for 41 percent of all fatalities on U.S. roadways.
“As we take time to celebrate our nation’s independence, everyone must take personal responsibility to keep this holiday happy and joyous. All too often, celebrations become tragedies because of one person’s careless and deadly decision to drink and drive,” said MADD National President Colleen Sheehey-Church. “Designate a non-drinking driver, if you plan to drink alcohol.” MADD is proud to work with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remind the public that if you choose to drink and drive you will get caught. MADD supports NHTSA’s campaign, “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” and is grateful to law enforcement for their increased presence by conducting additional sobriety checkpoints to remove drunk drivers from our roads.
Sobriety checkpoints are extremely effective in preventing drunk driving deaths and injuries and can reduce alcohol-related crashes and fatalities by 18 to 24 percent. MADD always supports law enforcement during these high-visibility enforcement events and urges everyone to show their support for this proven countermeasure in their state.
Drunk driving is not only dangerous, it is expensive. When caught, drunk driving can cost an offender thousands of dollars. According to NHTSA, a DUI arrest could cost up to $10,000, not to mention the loss of vehicle and driving privileges. The driver also could face jail time, higher insurance rates and expenses from attorney fees, fines, car towing, repairs and lost time at work. Most importantly, they can kill others including family members.
Drunk driving remains the leading killer on our roads, yet these senseless deaths are 100 percent preventable, 100 percent of the time. MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving is helping create a future with No More Victims®. The campaign includes advocacy for stronger drunk driving laws including all-offender ignition interlocks, support for high-visibility law enforcement, support for advanced vehicle technologies and public support for these initiatives.
MADD reminds everyone to take personal responsibility by using taxis, public transportation, rideshare services or calling a non-drinking friend if their plans include alcohol this Independence Day and every day.

Trenton NJ, Americans for Prosperity-New Jersey (AFP-NJ) responded to the New Jersey state budget, which the legislature passed and the governor signed on Sunday. The $37.4 billion state budget increased income taxes as well as corporate taxes. AFP-NJ opposed the measure.
AFP-NJ State Director Erica Jedynak issued the following statement:
“The way New Jersey lawmakers tax everything you’d think they’re purposefully trying to drive everyone out so they can keep the state to themselves. According to Sen. Sweeney and Gov. Murphy, the only thing better than a tax on one thing is a tax on two. But the higher income and corporate taxes will only exacerbate the Garden State’s already troubling outmigration problem and increase the tax burden on an ever-shrinking population. How long before New Jersey lawmakers start taxing folks in New York or Pennsylvania?
“That some lawmakers refuse to acknowledge that New Jersey has a spending problem, not a revenue problem, is outrageous. Our elected officials need to recognize that spending on wasteful programs such as corporate welfare is a core driver of increased taxes, which in turn make it harder to live, work, and raise a family in the Garden State.”

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Police Department held the 5th annual Chief Michael Feeney, Jr. Police Academy from Friday June 22nd through Friday June 29th 2018, at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The Academy was open to Ridgewood residents entering 5th 6th and 7th grades in the fall of 2018.
The cadets begin their first day of the Ridgewood Police Chief Michael Feeney Jr Police Academy with a meet and greet . Then the Cadets visited the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah where they participated in tactical driving, firefighting an obstacle course and a swat team demonstration.
The cadets watched an Army National Guard Helicopter land in Ridgewood and then off to Newark Airport where they learned how the TSA operates to keep passengers safe while traveling. The students then visited MetLife Stadium to learn about security from the stadium staff and the the New Jersey State Police.
Ridgewood Resident Melanie Whobin praised the event , “Never in my life have I ever seen such a wonderfully presented, well oiled machine of a camp. Everyone ***everyone*** could take a lesson from how this was put together and how it was executed. Every detail was considered, but most importantly,The motivation for the camp- Michael Feeney present in every detail. The Ridgewood Police and Fire, along with every other entity in Bergen county, which took part in this camp, have wowed me- and this cadet, Amazing job.”
River Edge NJ, Today, The Bergen County Historical Society announced its participation in the ninth annual Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Susan Knudsen and Michael Sedon will be sworn . A special congratulations to Ramon Hache who was sworn in as the new Mayor of Ridgewood and Susan Knudsen who was sworn in as the Deputy Mayor .

The Village Council is the governing body of the Village of Ridgewood. There are five Council members who are elected at large, on a non-partisan basis. The Municipal Election for Village Council takes place on the second Tuesday in May, in even numbered years. The term of a Council member is four years. The Mayor is chosen by the Village Council every two years, after a Municipal Election. The Reorganization meeting,which is when the new Council members take office is held on July 1st.
Village Council members serve part-time, and most have full-time jobs. They appoint a Village Manager to oversee the day to day operations of the Village, to handle personnel, citizen inquiries and complaints, and to handle the administrative duties of the Village.
The Village Council passes local laws, makes appointments to various Boards and Committees, and awards various contracts for purchases of goods and services used by the Village.
They also review, amend, and adopt the annual budget for the Village prepared by the Village Manager and Chief Financial Officer.
Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal and Labor Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo responded today to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that says public sector workers need not pay their “fair share” of dues to the unions that represent public sector employees.
In an opinion issued this morning, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The petitioners in Janus asked the Court to overrule an earlier decision that had determined public unions could require all workers to pay a “fair share” of union dues to defray the cost of collective bargaining. New Jersey, along with a coalition of states and unions, defended that prior decision. But in a 5-4 ruling this morning, the Supreme Court decided to allow workers to refuse to pay their fair share, potentially weakening collective bargaining by labor groups that negotiate employee compensation, pensions, and contracts.
“This disappointing decision does not in any way diminish our administration’s commitment to protecting the right of public sector employees to organize,” responded Governor Phil Murphy. “We stand firm with our labor unions and labor organizations to advocate and protect members’ rights as we did with the Workplace Democracy Enhancement Act I signed in May. Supporting strong unions is a critical part of making New Jersey’s economy work for everyone.”
If you read between the lines New Jersey politicians particular Democrats are upset that state workers will no longer be forced to support them through political donations.
Attorney General Gurbir Grewal agreed , “The very first amicus brief I signed as Attorney General was one in support of workers’ rights in Janus v. AFSCME,” said Attorney General Grewal. “I was proud to stand with labor on this crucial issue and remain so today. In New Jersey, we’re charting a path to protect workers even as the federal government turns away from them.
“At the Attorney General’s Office, we will use our legal authorities to continue vigorous enforcement of state laws that protect workers’ rights to organize and to engage in collective bargaining,” Attorney General Grewal continued. “Nothing about today’s decision changes that.”
The only thing Trenton is interested in protecting is the compact between state workers and Democrats that says you give us campaign contributions and we give you raises and generous contracts .
“This decision is a travesty for working men and women everywhere, particularly here in New Jersey, where workers’ right to organize is protected by our state Constitution,” added Labor Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo. “The decision undermines the ability of working people around the country to receive the respect and appreciation they deserve. Despite this ruling, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development is committed to working with our sister government agencies to protect workers’ rights, secure their safety, and ensure the dignity that work provides.”
The only “travesty” has been the lack of tax payer representation in the political process and the control of state government to unions

* TIMING...Highest heat indices will occur in the afternoon and
early evening.
* IMPACTS...Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at-
risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity may
cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees
for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
An Excessive Heat Watch means that the combination of heat and humidity could create a dangerous situation in which heat
illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous
activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight
and loose fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.
Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at increased risk. Homes without air conditioning
can be much hotter than outdoors.
Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members
and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.

“HVAC Upgrades at Village of Ridgewood Municipal Building, Ridgewood, NJ”
The principal items of the work of the project include: Existing bypass boxes for the RTU’s are to be replaced. The existing Trane Varitrac III DDC controls BMS shall be upgraded to a new BACnet open protocol BMS with new front end workstation. Install new bypass boxes associated with three (3) existing packaged rooftop HVAC units, AC-1-3-5, AC-2, and AC-4. The discharge air pressure of the three (3) RTU’s shall be increased by changing the fan/motor sheaves. Integrate existing HVAC system Trane DDC controls and upgrade the DDC controls to a new web-based BACnet open protocol BMS with new front end computer and provide new graphics for entire HVAC system. Functional performance verification and commissioning of all RTU’s, VAV boxes, and associated reheat coils and bypass boxes. Replace three (3) existing ductless split AC units with new units. Detailed testing, adjusting and balancing of all three (3) RTU’s (in terms of outside air, return air, supply air, economizer, maximum outside air), all air outlets and air inlets on all floors (including balancing partially ducted floor by floor return air ducts). Rebalance outside air for all three (3) RTU’s. Provide one (1) spare fan motor of each type (rating) for all three (3) RTU’s. Replace defective VAV boxes, damper actuators, and other related work for a complete project.

Ridgewood NJ, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM EDT Saturday.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES…In the upper 90s. Heat index values will be at least a few degrees higher on Sunday.
* TIMING…Highest heat indices in the mid to late afternoon.
* IMPACTS…Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at-risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity
may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees
for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.
Ridgewood NJ, Despite objections voiced by local residents to Ridgewood Village Manager Heather Mailander, and to members of the Ridgewood Village Council, heavily loaded tandem axle dump trucks are being permitted to use portions of South Broad Street that are primarily residential as a travel route to and from the former Brogan Cadillac site, which is now undergoing demolition in preparation for the start of high density housing construction. The Village had considered the temporary removal of a speed hump in order to reduce the likelihood of noise and foundation damaging vibrations, but as these photos (taken on 06/28) indicate, that did not happen.
