Montvale NJ, under a new ordinance starting Monday, non-residents who use the borough’s basketball courts without obtaining a special badge could face up to a $200 fine. The measure comes in response to residents’ complaints that they had to vie for time on the busy courts.
So the borough has decided to make the courts members-only, with free badges going to Montvale residents. Non-residents must pay a $25 annual fee to use the basketball courts. many other towns like Ridgewood have special badges for Tennis and pickleball court play.
Court time will be limited to one hour of play when others are waiting. For team play, permits will be required to use the courts during a specified time slot, and all players must have badges. Anyone caught on the courts without a badge faces a $100 fine for the first offense and a $200 fine for subsequent offenses, with possible termination of membership for one year, according to the ordinance.
