Glen Rock NJ, small road signs over intersections are not only annoying to motorists but can cause a problem. In Glen Rock a motorist driving from the post office along Glen avenue who stops at Rock road is confronted by a small sign above the intersection which is not easy to read because it is small “NO TURN ON Red 7A–6P Mon —Sat.” According to the FHWA it only suggests placing such a sign on crossbar near the signal. It clearly states that that this recommendation is just a guidance, not a requirement. This confusion can be eliminated by a much bigger sign placed on the right corner next to “DO NOT BLOCK” where motorists can read it.

The characters, especially the Days/Times need to be much larger, or the signs need to be placed closer on the approach to the intersection.
This is not s problem for those who travel the routes every day, but it is a problem for those encountering the signs for the first time or who lave less than stellar vision.
Good points, but the blog is not the venue to make it happen. I hope you will consider making a presentation, with slides shown on a large screen, at a council meeting. You can request a place on the agenda of a future meeting and (if the council agrees) the council can ask appropriate village department officials to attend. THAT might have results.
If the council will not agree to a presentation, you could still make a statement during the comment section of any meeting and ask permission to give photos of trouble spots to the council, or send them to them electronically in advance or afterward.
While we r talking GRock and Ridgewood, what are the local politicians and councils doing to ensure the safety of residents when the Nabisco building is imploded in April?
In Ridgewood there are “bronze” street signs telling you want stores/establishments are on that block – not very visible and what happens when the establishment goes out of business? Which seems to frequently happen….
what do you think the village should do about Nabisco coming down ,maybe they’ll give everybody a day off, shut the school down ,tell everybody stay inside and close your windows. And I’m only kidding, but I like inside that’s an old building. And yes, there’s going to be a lot of dust when it comes down and the wind is blowing towards whatever town it’s something to think about, because you know, and I know that there’s chemicals, lead paint, And who knows what else.
