Student From Ramsey Charged in School Active Shooter Incident

Ramsey NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of LUKE NATOLI (DOB: 6/29/2003; single; student) of Ramsey, NJ, on charges of false public alarm, terroristic threats, and harassment. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Montvale Police Department under the direction of Chief Joseph Sanfilippo.

On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was notified by the Montvale Police Department that an unknown telephone caller using technology to anonymize his calling line identity (“caller ID”) placed a telephone call to a Bergen County high school official claiming that he was going to bring a gun to a sport’s practice that afternoon. First responders and school officials took measures to ensure the safety of the campus while members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit and the Montvale Police Department initiated an investigation to trace the call.

Just imagine. An ordinary school day. Students are in class, the teacher is checking their homework.

Because he no longer had the energy to do the assignment, after attending class and working as a barista, at a café nearby. And some of the students had been hard at work all night writing essays. When you as a teacher find out about the threat, do your actions panic? No, no panic, just a quick reaction. Fortunately, the tragedy of the shooting was avoided by a quick reaction.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that LUKE NATOLI placed the alarming telephone call, which was a hoax threat. Detectives located NATOLI in Poughkeepsie, New York later that day, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with the assistance of the Poughkeepsie Police Department. NATOLI was charged with second-degree false public alarm, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-3b; third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3a; and the petty disorderly persons offense of harassment, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4a. NATOLI was remanded to the Dutchess County, New York Jail pending extradition to Bergen County.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Montvale Police Department and the Poughkeepsie (NY) Police Department for their assistance with this investigation, as well as the Lyndhurst Police Department which participates in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
