Support for smoking ban: the Tyranny of Stupidity Continues

Ridgewood NJ, By now many of you are aware the Village Council members have given their preliminary OK to the plan, part of a statewide initiative to create a smoke-free environment in all public parks.
One Question , whats next ,banning Slurpee’s , large sugary drinks , loud dogs, big cars , seat belts for dogs in cars , haven’t we all had enough of this nonsense all ready? Or has person freedom become something to fear ?
Any doubt with anything I say just ask Mayor Bloomberg . Lets face it there is virtually nothing you can do in your life that wont raise eyebrows with someone .
Any chance anyone even remembers that personal freedom means personal responsibility . Our country was founded on the idea of limits to government intervention on ones personal life . I know that’s a very old fashioned idea.
With the absolute mess we find ourselves in in this country , do we really want to concede all our personnel freedom of choice to a government that on a good day barely knows what time it is . Do you really want the Village Council telling how to live your life?
So again I ask what are they going to ban next?
They already ban silly string. This is just another silly ban.
Next ban will be unconventional sex in private.
No…. they are all for that…
The author says this as if banning smoking in a public park is a bad thing.
While I believe some bans are simply a infringement on one’s rights, i.e. over sized soft drinks, Big Macs, $700 fines for dogs deemed “dangerous” etc., banning smoking in a public park is not unreasonable. We are all aware of the health hazards associated cigarette smoking. It’s not a myth. Why should a nonsmoker be subjected to second-hand smoke in any public venue? No one is suggesting that smoking be banned in someone’s home. Only in places in which other people’s health could be effected by the habit.
It’s true, that if there is something to complain about, someone will find a reason to complain. Personally. I can’t complain that the Village Council is trying to protect one’s personal safety.

The public is already banned from drinking alcohol in a public park (open container ord ) why not ban smoking also. Smoking in public seems more detrimental to public health than drinking a beer from an open container while waiting for a bus or eating lunch in the park.
Let them smoke but they must take their trash, ashes and butts with them when they go.
No one else would be allowed to drop their pacifier or tissues when they are done. Pick it up and take it with you. Most smokers are litterbugs.
Next there will be a dress code. Shorts all year round.
Lets ban smoking…..
Just whatever we do, let’s not ban killing fetuses.
After all, smoking in public might harm the life of another…
