The currently proposed garage at Hudson Street
is TOO BIG

The petition seeks to protest Ordinance 3521 with the following ballot question:
Shall Ordinance No. 3521 authorizing the Council of the Village of Ridgewood
to issue $11,500,000 bonds or notes to finance the cost of constructing the
Hudson Street Parking Deck, currently contemplated as a 4 story, 5 level
Parking Deck, be ratified?
Do you know the difference in height between Option A and Design D?
It’s 2ft 6in. Would you call that a compromise?
We don’t.The in house funding for the parking garage passed 5-0 on 23rd, which is great. Everyone wants the garage funded in house.
Many people who want the garage, and want to fund in house, believe it’s just 2 tall, and should come down a level.
Why a petition to repeal an ordinance that we really want?
Because this petition will put funding on hold (for a short time),
it will allow the 5 council members to talk compromise (something three of them have been unwilling to do).
They have a choice, they can decide to seriously sit down at the compromise table, and see if 1 level lower will work
(all the numbers point to a yes, since any size garage relies heavily on the parking meter revenues).
If it’s agreed to lowering it 1 story to 3 stories, 4 levels, the petition will be withdrawn,
& we move forward immediately with a 3 story 4 level parking garage funded in house. So, it basically comes down to this:

If you’d rather see:
design D with 3 stories, 4 levels, approx 37ft building height & 52ft towers- approx 260 spaces- then you should sign the petition
If you are happy with the current design D of 4 stories, 5 levels, 46ft 8in building height & 60ft 10in towers- 325 spaces- then you should not sign the petition

You must be a registered voter residing in the Village of Ridgewood to sign the petition.

  1. People at Van Neste square now collecting signatures. Roberta, Rurik & John apparently trying to interrupt conversations, so petitioners can’t talk to people

  2. Referendum committee continues to show foresight , leadership and patience . They listen and reason with citizens and taxpayers. Expect a battle tho

  3. Roberta has overstepped her bounds.

I saw Rurick in action at acouncil meeting. I have no interest in speaking to him. We are strangers and I want to keep it that way

  4. Reason Ridgewood continues to fail are also the way we treat our visitors to CBD. Was at cottage place parking lot today on e ridgewood side of lot facing realtors bookends and first suv slapped with tickets for not parking into soace nose in. Rather than a recorded warning no fine ticket. This town hates its visitors that family likely in the Gap. California closets. Family treat while Parking agent gloats re another victim created. With this attitude we dont deserve to be successful ps happy Easter. Mail your Fifty dollars to VOR AND PS UP YOURS. New mayor pls fix this with initial one time warning feature. Tell them we love their business and welcome back on the warning summons

    Cheers

  5. This petition is over the top and too much

  6. James,
The photo above is not of the current proposed design. Please replace it with the correct image from here: https://www.ridgewoodnj.net/images/Ridgewood/Projects/HudsonStParkingDeck/View_3_-_West_on_Hudson_St_final.jpg

  7. Whether the petition has any bearing on the project one way or another is not the point, it is the village manager interfering.

  8. 3 amigos reaping what they hath sowed..petition just a reaction to them and reconfirms zero trust to their scorched earth policies.Going to BCA was where the street fight began.good ridence. We will need a total audit and dump trucks once we rip the cover off their backdealings.

  9. I was trying to park in the CBD this morning in the lot across the street from Rite Aid. A vehicle was taking up a space and a half. Wasn’t considerate to park evenly. I had already put money in the meter before I realized that my car was not aligned correctly and was therefore also taking up room in the next parking spot for lack of room.

So I had to find another spot and put more money in the meter. I am not the upper one percent to say the least and I wished there had been a policeman for me to show how the other guy had parked.

Please those who are against over -dvelopment in Ridgewood like I am. Please do not become the vigilantes that Rurik accuses you of being. Obey the rules and the law.

  10. Dear 4.19.sorry for your parking troubles..seemed to be a lot of out of town Visitors today .Easter weekend.no excuses for line hoggers..all these surface lots really need new asphalt pot hole repairs
    (lawsuit avoidance)and re lining.

  11. This is the picture shown to the HPC when they “voted” on it. It should remain here. The HPC and the Village Council used this image to tell the residents, this is what you are buying. I appreciate John V. for his dogged pursuit of links to bolster all conversations. This is the right picture for this discussion.

  12. Oh of course John v. We should do as you say. You troll. Who are you again??

  13. 5:51pm and 9:17pm-
James had a photo of the old design Garage A up earlier with this post. Apologies for not making that clear in my comment. He then replaced it with the one above of the current Option D sometime after my post. This is the version that the petition is trying to get reduced by a level. And same one shown to HPC. So all is good now. (The link I put above is a slightly revised rendering that corrects some issues with the initial rendering, but differences are pretty minor to the one James has up there.)
    Thank you James!
